I just read in the new Grassroots Motorsports, that the WRX is aproved to compete in the GT class. What do you guys think? It seems that the car is too big for the Touring Class, but too small for the GT class. I guess that they will alow some major mods so it can compete with the 400hp Audi S4's, Vetts, etc. Forgive if this is old news.:)

i thought it was unfair at first...
but after my last rally...
i dont know about that...

we rally a 90 Talon and matched the WRX's time in the last Club rally we had out here... we got 3rd overall just behind him and a wicked evil Saab driver hehehehe...

although it seems unfair.. the PGT class allows for a huge variety of entrants..... basically any prod. car....
and like the wrx the Talon has approx 200hp... and there are others that can compete... seems ok to me, but i doubt they will let it stay there...

we'll see if they push it into open class for next year...
it's made for many an interesting debate this rally season...

ARG! Why do all my suscriptions come after everyone else gets theirs? I still don't have the newest GRM.

Maybe they will let the WRX be lighter than the rest of the class. That would be awesome to watch. Hope someone participates.

I have the new GRM but haven't read it yet...

But what I'm really wondering is what the heck Jamie is talking about. :D Speedvision GT is a touring car championship, not rally. To compete, a WRX would have to be... um, pretty tricked out.

One thing the WRX might have going for it, is that each car has a different minimum wieght. The M3's for example weigh less than the Vipers. I would imagine the WRX could weigh quite a bit less than the competition.

Something over 300hp would still be required, probably more than 350hp to be competitive.

I think the WRX would fit better in Touring, but it would kinda go against the new smaller car theme, such as the Protege, Civic Si, and Jettas. I think the Touring class is kinda a crock anyways. The Type Rs pretty much have dominated, so the BMWs were allowed bigger engines to make them more competitive. What has happened, is that these two cars now dominate. The Civic Si, Protege, and Jetta's fight for mid-pack.

It is always fun to watch, but it sure would be more fun to have more makes running at the front. This would surely spur more factory interest, if they thought they would stand a chance against the BMW and Type Rs.

Jamie, what are you talking bout?:D I can't imagine anybody using a WRX in the GT. I would be a expensive place to start due to the fact that the car would need so much to be compeditive. However, it would be great to see a WRX vs the other greatest cars of the world.:D

Or we can forget about the mods, and just get Roger Foo to drive the car! I met him in person, and all I got to say is that he would be the perfect driver for the WRX!

Please excuse Jamie, she's got rally on the brain ;)

I think the WRX won't do too bad in GT. It definitely doesn't fit the touring class, too big. [edit: I don't think the bimmers fit the class either]

I doubt it'd be a front runner right away but they (the organizers) do an OK job of adjusting the weights and I'm sure they'd realize that a 2.0 litre single turbo needs to weight less that a 2.8 litre twin turbo. Weight plays a pretty big factor in road racing. Besides, at least we'd have someone else to root for at the standing starts :)

well lets see... there is only one way to find out!! RIGHT?? so we'll build a WRX with 350 hp and i'll drive it.

i am very confident that a WRX with that horsepower and a decent driver (read: myself) would be competitive in Speedvision GT!!

now. i'm the driver so that part of the team is set.

so Sponsors may line up here -->

and Crew members here -->

A 350 HP subaru isn't too outrageous at all. Has anyone checked out the post (http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65576) from Nick over in Turbo Power? He is really close and hasn't done too much considering what some of the teams do. An item to be considered when talking about that mush power and the duration of races is tranny reliability and suspension mods.

I will be soooooo happy when someone takes up the challenge so that I can watch a Subaru kick butt on Speedvision!.

IIRC, touring car engines are limited to 2 liters N/A in the Speedvision Touring Car Challenge.

So far I have gathered up just about everything I need to be competitive and run the full season of Speedvision World Challenge races next year, but there are a couple things I still need:

1. WRX (race prepped)
2. Race Team (w/hauler & parts)
3. Lots of funding (Hello SOA????)
:D

If anyone has any of these things laying around, please let me know! :)

I myself will be interested to see the WRX run in the Speedvision Cup and Motorola Cup. 350HP is possible. Cobb Tuning has a package that runs 320HP according to them. Not sure if that's just marketing or not. That's also with a new ball bearing turbo. I'm not sure what are the rules about changing engine internals in these touring car races but I think for the USTCC, the team isn't allowed to change engine internals. Maybe Gary Sheehan and his team will run in the SpeedVision and Motorola Cup. What say you Gary? :)

My WRX will be a rally car, it already has hail dings and is just 4 weeks old! It's perfect! I even talked my wife into buying a WRX for non-racing family use only!!!! Amazing!! Now I just need to go participate in some rallies. I am going to the Maine Rally in July to be a worker, then the Florida rally-x or whatever it turns out to be, in August. Hooray! I can't get enough!!!
