It seems the last month or so my car has thrown a couiple of check engine lights after it stumbles when starting. It also idles very rough. after warming up it runs fine but a few miles down the road it will throw a CIL. has anyone had this problem?

my car is a 01 2.5RS with 108,000 miles. Has been perfectly flawless up untill now.

Take it to Autozone or someone with a code reader, get the code(s) and post them here. Nothing we can do to help you without the specific codes that are being set.

A bad 02 sensor will not have any effect on cold start performance. The ECU does not use the 02 for A/F control until the engine has reached operating temperature and can go into closed loop. It's still possible that he may have an 02 sensor code among other things, but that won't be all that's wrong. This is why it needs to be scanned to troubleshoot the problem correctly.

I'm betting spark plug wires or something along those lines...
I was having this exact behavior for a while now, and then finally, my car got pretty rough while cruising on the highway. I popped the hood and the wire had started arcing. Replaced them yesterday and now cold start is much smoother.

yeah plug wires are going on 4 years old now, probably due for changing. I'll report back my results.

any recommendations on brands etc?

I had the same troubles last winter man...some new bosch plugs and factory plug wires from subaruparts.com did the trick. Did you get your fuel filter changed??

changed the filter already, has new NGK plugs in it. What did the wires from subie parts run you?
