From some people who have had experience with wrapping the turbine, headers, and downpipe...
What is the benefits to doing this? Besides the obvious typical it keeps the under bonnet temps way down, what is the performance benefit of wrapping the associated exhaust parts in the car?
thankyou :D

keeps the exhaust gas hot and moving... made some nice 4-foot fireballs on my Rx-7

Be careful if you choose to use thermal wrap...
I think there are a few threads about the dangers of wrapping headers, downpipes etc. Several people have had there cars catch on fire from leaking coolant, oil, etc that spilled and soaked into the thermal wrap. Some people put out the fires before any major damage, but I think one car was burnt to the ground.
An alternative would be to get a jet hot coating treatment, etc done instead of wrapping.

Cool I may just wrap the turbine only and just use plain ole' exposed headers

what about concerns about accelerated corrosion,
i heard that the exhaust tends to "rot" when they are wrapped

Try the search feature too. Search for Thermo Tec, DEI, wrap, etc. This has been discussed a lot here.
