FINALLY got it running right.. kinda.. :) lol
anyway, get out on the road 7psi, pulls great..
come back to notice smoke, pop the hood, oil all over everywhere!
turns out after some detective work, there is oil coming out of both Valve cover breather holes, and not just a little, like 3/4 quart or so, in the 5 mins i drove it.
the car does not have any of the PCV stuff, or the EGR.. no emissions here, so it is not on the car.
from what i have read this is a bad thing, and looks like i may be replacing rings..
any ideas?
this is a 94 EJ20G from a WRX, that probably hasnt been ran in like 6-8 years or so.
it has 111000 km on it.
any ideas on what could be wrong?

If you don't know the history of the motor, the rings may be gunked up or just shot.
Blowby is usually a bad thing.....especially on a turbo'd motor.

is it because the engine is old and not been run, would it get better as i drove it? or do i need to pull the engine out and rip it apart
the engine was purchased from venus auto, last spring, and has not been run since yesterday

do a compression test, that will tell you what is up most likely.

i did a cold compression check with the intake manifold completely off, that yeilded 125psi +/- 2psi on all cylinders.
this is an 8.5:1 engine, so that seems about right

oil passages gumed up, in the heads? ive never heard of anything like that. try running that engine cleaner in it...you can do it a jiffy lube..ect. im not sure what it is called but its supposed to get rid of gummy crap. hey its worth a try its only like 15 bucks.

What do you have covering the valve cover breather holes? filters or hoses?

exactly, if there are no hoses there then ofcourse oil will be sputtering up everywhere.

so, i can't run the engine w/o all the PCV hoses in place?

unless you like oil outside of your engine.

so, if the engine runs fine otherwise, all i have to do is install the pcv hoses again and all will be well?
yeah
IIRC there are three hoses on to the block and one to each valve cover
have you changed your oil yet
i started my car let it run for 30 min then chainged the oil and filter
i ran really cheep really thin stuff for the first start up

yeah, i changed the oil, it was nasty creamed cofee looking stuff..
ill put the pcv hoses back on it, and see if i still get oil leaks
