View Full Version : XEDE reviews?
erggy 11-10-2004, 05:45 AM wondering what are your impressions on the XEDE for WRXs STIs? Are they the "ideal" piggyback in the market? any key competitors that I should be looking at?
also does XEDE work with the AVCS (variable valve timing) of JDM STIs?
thank youuuuu :D
cooter 11-10-2004, 08:50 AM I have an XEDE sitting in my floor right now. Just waiting to get my break-in miles done before it goes in. After seeing what an XEDE can do on both an STi with just a TBE, and then that same STi with an FP-Green + 850cc injectors, I was sold. Oh, and they just released the PnP harness for the STi
Another option you may consider is the Ecutek reflash. On a custom tune, the Ecutek and XEDE should yield about the same results. But the XEDE offers more flexibility in the future should you want to make some changes to your setup.
I would not consider the UTEC (the only other viable piggyback option), but of course others on this board would tell you different. I don't much care for the idea of static timing control (or lack thereof....)
If you're real hardcore, you could go with a standalone ecu, aka Hydra. This one's still relatively new, so I can't say much about it. A search would be helpful, if you're even considering a standalone option at all.
Good luck!
erggy 11-10-2004, 10:35 AM hehe thank you for your inputs!! actually I'm currently using a stand-alone for my MY00 STI right now (EMS 4424 stinger) but is looking to find the ideal ECU to use for MY01+ incl. new STIs :D
rich728 11-10-2004, 05:19 PM Another vote for the XEDE here. I've had it tuned by the vendor twice now as ive added parts. I have only positive things to say about it.
erggy 11-10-2004, 08:05 PM any of you ever had both UTEC and the XEDE? would like to find out some impressions :)
mnavarro 11-10-2004, 09:42 PM Also is it smooth like ecutek?
apoji187 11-10-2004, 10:20 PM Im running an xede right now with a moderate amount of mods, its fairly smooth and I have nothing good to say about it. Its very seamless imo, it has the occasional hiccup - a stutter perhaps maybe once every several hundered miles and you wont notice it unless you're looking for it. Right after installation you'll notice a huge difference. I have a wideband installed and running constantly and my a/f ratios are right on target as well, and thats with minimal tuning. I have to say I was really skeptical before I installed it, in fact i had it sittin in my backseat for months. There's alot of reviews out there by die hard utec users, who'll try to push the conventional. It works fine, in fact its a great bang for the buck and Its well worth the investment.

Nothing good to say about it? You're killing me  ;)
Regarding the stuttering, it is caused by a slightly dirty ground in the wire-in harness installation. It has been completely resolved with the plug-in harness which is now availabe (but sold out for the next 2 weeks unfortunately). If you'd like to update to the plug-in harness, give us a call and we'll take care of you. If not, we can talk you through the change you need to make to the XEDE ground.
Take care,
shiv
deebo 11-11-2004, 03:52 PM i think he meant to say he has nothing bad to say about it but not sure
apoji187 11-11-2004, 06:13 PM hah, yea that was a typo..i meant nothing BAD to say about it..
I'm all about the xede, and its one of the best purchases I've made for the car.
deebo 11-11-2004, 07:30 PM geez there are so many EMs i dunno which to get
Dale_K 11-11-2004, 08:59 PM Does this work on an 05 STI? I've heard of issues with the immobilizer on some other tuning devices.
cooter 11-12-2004, 11:52 PM Just installed my xede w/harness today on my '05 STi. Works perfect. Running the stage subzero map (ie, no mods other than the xede). Gained a lot more power (butt-dyno proven) than I thought I would.
:disco:

Bringing it back up from the dead. I was wondering if anyone running the Xede knows of how to fix this hiccup? Mine is doing it every 30 miles or so instead of every 300 miles so it's about once a day for me. Can't be that good for the engine.
