View Full Version : Any older Soobys out there?
Subi Ru 06-28-2001, 12:43 AM I just bought a 95 Impreza coupe, and I'm feelin a bit lonely. Anyone else here have an older model? Like 97 or older?
Mine is still totally stock, but I am working on some mods. I have $700 to start me out... might buy one thing!
I was holding out and saving for a WRX, but my 87 plymouth (that I've had since I was 16) took an unexpected turn for the worse, so I had to settle for the only Sooby I could find and afford! A used Sooby is practically impossible to find here in Milwaukee!!!! I was very happy to get the one I have! In Wisconsin, AWD is soooooo great!
I just christened her with mud last week... FUN! I LOVE this car!
We own a 95 Honda Civic EX too... but my little Subi Ru is better! I'm hooked!
Gambit 06-28-2001, 12:49 AM there are a few I am sure of it Subi Ru. Not suer where they've been hiding that's all! And Congrats on getting a Subaru!!! :D
RedBrighton96 06-28-2001, 04:12 AM I've got a 96 Brighton model impreza. Bottom of the line, but still a very fun car and the awd in the snow or the mud is so much fun.
Congrats and welcome to the club.

Max Umbarger 06-28-2001, 08:21 AM 1993 Subaru Impreza L. 1.8L with 153,800 on it! Strong runner!
Welcome Subi Ru!!
Max
I had a '95 L until November 2000. Then I traded up to a 2001 RS.
As for old school, does my '86 Brat count?
Delhi 06-28-2001, 11:05 AM my mom used to have a Subaru GL. Does that count?
orbit03 06-28-2001, 12:06 PM I kept my '96 Impreza AWD L Sedan when I bought the WRX. It has been such a good car, I couldn't just trade it. I decided to keep it and let my g/f use it for business travel. The only problem it that she likes the WRX too much and always bugs me to take it. She plans on buying the WRX from me when the STi gets here. :D
The '96 has been a great car. 90,000 miles and still running strong. I think it is getting ready for new struts, but other than that, not a lick of trouble.
andyC 06-28-2001, 01:14 PM I have had my 93 wagon for almost one year now and I just hit 130,000 miles yesterday. Such a fun car to drive once you start adding little upgrades :D
travman733 06-28-2001, 01:15 PM I'm also a part of the '93 Impreza L AWD club...

Had an '86 GL wagon before this'n.
WagonMonster 06-28-2001, 01:45 PM I would kill for an Old AWD Impreza to build my Rally Car with!

I want a WRX too, but the roads and the winter up here really beat the hell out of vehicles, so I bought an "old skool" Scooby instead!!
And ya know what? I love it! Maybe not the fastest thing on wheels, but what a great little off road machine! As soon as I move back down south, a new WRX is first thing on my list, but right now I'm having too much fun with my wagon!!
Dirt Rules!!
vicster 06-28-2001, 03:47 PM my aunt has an old GL wagon from the '80s -- no power steering, no power anything for that matter, no AC, AM radio... still a fun car to drive though :)

Mr Cheese 06-28-2001, 05:03 PM :)
scoobagenie 06-28-2001, 05:05 PM hey can i climb on as well?
my first car in high school/college was a 85 gl wagon - tough li'l car that carried 14 college kids several times out to eat :D i still get teary eyed thinking about that old scooby...
94 impreza L, it has 155 000 miles on it, sadly it's not running great right now:( , a 94 justy with 135 000 miles, the toughest car in it's class!!!! We had a legacy turbo, but sold it in 98 for a volvo xc, the legacy turbo is still on of my favorite subaru's of all time!!What a car!!!
imprezadan 06-28-2001, 08:33 PM You should pickup an 18mm rear bar to really enjoy all that your sube has to offer!
Max Umbarger 06-29-2001, 09:20 AM Try a 20mm bar!
Here's what I drove to work this morning. :)

Keeps up with traffic at 75mph. :) Loves mud and long trips on dirt roads in the Everglades.
Travman...that's a great L. I really like the color.
Here's my former Impreza...before I got my RS.

Tkacik 06-29-2001, 09:41 AM I have a 95 L:) I would attach a pic, but I still dont know how to get my pics smaller than 5100 bytes.
travman733 06-29-2001, 01:05 PM Hey Matt...you're ride ain't lookin' too shabby either. I really like the tinting!!!!! Wish I woulda done that. Wanted to do some modding too, but I decided to go with the stereo instead (http://tbailey.dns2go.com/main/caraudio/mine/mycar.html ). The color...was definitely something to get used to. But, after a while, it grew on me.
Cool site Travis.
I had a nice Blaupunkt and Rockford Fosgate system. My girlfriend was pretty angry when I traded it for my RS. At least the RS has a stereo system upgrade. Not bad for factory.
I saw you were purchasing a WRX. Are you keeping the Impreza L or selling it?
Here's what I traded the L in for:
http://www.enduserville.com/brat/Image10.jpg
It keeps my Brat company. :)
Akirasoft 06-29-2001, 01:45 PM my uncle used to have a Justy... does that count? :)
travman733 06-29-2001, 02:34 PM Heck yeah the Justy counts!!! It's amazing that a car that small could have four wheel drive!!!!
Matt - Oh baby...I see why you traded fer the RS...that's a sweet lookin' ride!!! And, of course, you need to keep the Brat from gettin' lonely. :D Yup, I'm picking up my black WRX wagon on Tuesday. Just picked up the new cd deck today. Not really sure what to do with the '93 yet. The mileage is 122k and it's been such a good car...I really hate to part with it. For now, I'll be using it as a winter car (friggin' Michigan winters...ah, but funtime for us Suby owners) and garaging the WRX till the spring. Guess I'll have to make a decision on what to do with it then...I really hate to see my '93 Suby go.:(
Flatfour 06-29-2001, 02:46 PM Well,
I have a 92 legacy-Turbo and a 94 SVX Lsi... but most interesting I think is my old GL wagon (89) which I gave to my parents as a yard car...it shows 365,000 mi! (second engine though)...
tonytiger 06-29-2001, 04:49 PM I have a white 1993 Legacy 1.8. It has got 170000 km on it (about 100000miles). Runs well and is in good shape.
However some problems have accoured:
Clutch - this spring
Front brakes jamming - fixed this spring and rotors grinded
Both front axle joints replaced -about year ago
Powersteering's oil pump leak, replaced - about year ago
Ratlling axhaust, maybe a heat shield loose or something- waiting to be fixed
Subie has been stole twice and on the second time it was colided. Not bad, but the hood and front bumper needed some work - it was payed by the insurance.
tony
If I didn't have to trade my L in, I would've kept it. But the trade in made the deal worthwile.
Plus I just had too many cars and not enough people to drive them.
Tony, sorry about your car. :( I can't believe someone stole it and got into an accident. My sister had a 1993 Legacy with a 2.2L engine with 200,000 miles until a collision that totalled the car. Now she has a new Civic that she hates.
Subi Ru 06-29-2001, 07:58 PM You all rock! I'm so glad I wasn't the only one out here without a WRX.
Very nice rides ! I love the tint Matt...
Hopefully soon I will have some pictures to post of Subi Ru if I do any mods. I'm so excited now to get to work on it!
Michelle
tonytiger 06-30-2001, 09:11 AM Heh, new record to my Subie's history. Today I was going driving with my girl friend and there was a surprice waiting for me.
The drivers side window was broken and my car stereos and other things was stolen. Trunk, however, was untouched. Broken glass everywhere.
Couple of mintues ago it was towed a way to be fixed.
Some junkie had it's daily dose. I'd buy them an huge overdose - with pleasure.
tony
RedBrighton96 06-30-2001, 06:29 PM Tony, that sucks about your car, mine's been violated like that twice in the last month and a half. First time they pried out the drivers side door handle and the lock on the trunk, stole all of my radio equipment and my cds. And then two weeks ago someone broke out my driver's side door handle and all they got was my sunglasses and two crappy speakers that i was going to replace soon anyway. The thing that made me the maddest was that it still wasn't fixed from where it was broken into before so it only would have taken a second to unlock and open the door where the handle was missing and they wouldn't have to have broken my window to find out that there wasn't anything to steal in there in the first place.
