Last year I bought a set of Dunlop Winter Sport M2's size 225/45-17 and a cheaper set of wheels for the Michigan winters for my '04 STi. All was fine until I had a side wall blow out early last spring. I couldn't get a replacement M2 at the time as they were out of stock for the year. I figured I'd wait until the fall (now) to get a replacement. I haven't been able to find any in stock. Tirerack tells me I can buy a non-matching brand and get it shaved to match the OD. I only put 5k miles on the M2's so their wear is minimal. My Subaru dealer told me a non-matching brand is fine as long as I check the tread wear on the old tires...and pick a tire keeping the dimension from the rim to the road is within 1/8" for all wheels. If I don't do that Subaru says I risk damage to the AWD.

I'd prefer not putting on a shaved non-matching tread...so does anyone have any idea where I can find a single Dunlop 225/45-17 M2?
