View Full Version : Stock STI Dyno and UTEC Dyno numbers
STI2005PR 11-16-2004, 02:18 AM Went to the dyno today with the utec.
228whp without the UTEC:)
216whp with UTEC Stage 1 Map from Turboxs:furious:
242whp Tuned by Gadiel here in Puerto Rico.
I guess the TurboXS map its a good for nothing map.
What do you guys think?
b4437 11-16-2004, 02:22 AM it's in the tuner and i've heard, Gadiel is the man. ;)
cooter 11-16-2004, 02:24 AM Apples to oranges here, but I know a stage 2 wrx that made less power with a TurboXS unichip than he did with just the stock ecu.
Oh well, you came out ahead in the end, congrats ;)
Physics Junkie 11-16-2004, 04:59 AM I KNEW IT WAS POSSIBLE! When I installed my UTEC with their stage 2 map I was running headers/tbe/uppipe/intake and it felt slower than with the stock ECU. Even my passenger said it was slower than without it. When I posted on the boards though everyone told me it was just a smoother curve so it felt like less power...I was damn sure I was losing power but then I figured it must all be in my head...I guess TurboXS is just tuning their maps conservatively. Makes sense though...it would be bad business to send out a map that could potentially damage an engine.
happasaiyan 11-16-2004, 07:59 AM txs basemaps = safe.
if you were already running modded without EM, chances are, your car felt faster because it was...and running a LOT of timing up top for the boost/mods your car was running. txs basemaps are just that- basemaps. the intention is to alter the map to fit your car. but regardless, just because your car was running faster without it, chances are you were running along a line between barely safe and dangerous...esp when it comes to knock.

txs basemap = less hp than stock with 1 psi more than stock.

Why do you say apples to oranges? It's the same car with the UTEC and without the UTEC. Only mod is the UTEC.
Thanks,
Went to the dyno today with the utec.

What kind of Dyno was this??
wrxtremeWGN 11-16-2004, 03:23 PM dynojet.
nice numbers, good to see the utec will p/u almost 20hp w/ no other mods. what did you raise the boost to?

It's a dynojet. Other stock sti's have dyno on the same range of 220 to 230. It's the only AWD Dyno here in Puerto Rico.

Thanks,
Apples to oranges because you're talking about an STi with a UTEC, I'm talking about a WRX with a unichip.
=P
2002WRXSTi 11-16-2004, 11:15 PM The Turbo XS maps are quite tame timing wise from what I have been told and it should be for the most part. If someone DLed a map and detonated there engine to death because they were not smart enough to understand what was happening it would look bad on Turbo XS end.
I put my UTEC in my car and DL'ed the Stage 4 map and then had Junior adjust the fuel maps. Told him forget about the timing maps (I was cheap at the time) and lost 4 tenths at the track :( When I posted about it Jermaine posted that my JDM ECU had more timing than the T-XS race gas map even
So yeah they are conservative in the timing department for safety's sake ;)
After I let Junior fix my prob later he was able to pull me 380whp on 93 pump gas
RexRonald 11-17-2004, 12:18 AM stage 4 of the 4.2 revision was the worst map i've used... well, not worst, but richest and 'safest'...
rolled to the dyno on stage 4 map (2.0 wrx with fp18g and fmic) made 229whp at 17psi -- base run on the base map. It came in around 10.1:1 afr. car was just about sputtering raw gas out the tailpipe :(
left making a little under 300whp at 19psi... 2lbs of boost and 70 more at the wheels... wow did that feel like night and day...
can i say, driving the car home was MUCH more fun than driving it there... :D
dynojet.
nice numbers, good to see the utec will p/u almost 20hp w/ no other mods. what did you raise the boost to?
Stupid Questions ..... Does this dyno typically read higher or lower than a Mustang Dyno??
s2ktosti 11-18-2004, 12:26 PM Dynojet is typically higher I believe.

It all depends of the calibration and correction factor used. In our case I think that we do not use correction factors and all of the STI that have dyno stock are around 220 to 230whp. My guess is that this one reads pretty low compare to other dynojets in the states. Since this is the only AWD dyno down here we can't compare it.
