Yesterday I heard a strange noise (like a valve knocking) on my 2003's WRX. It happened at low rpm (about 1000-1200) and has disapeared after about 10 minutes when my car was hot.
It sounded like when you change the motor oil and when you restart your engine it makes a little knocking noise a few seconds.
As anybody an idea what it can be ? Today I had the similar noise, just ticking a little between 1000-1200 rpm then nothing !?!?
Thank you for your answers and I apologize for my poor english skills !
Best regards.

You speak better english than most of the people on here. Besides, you're european and I'm sure you know a number of different languages. I can barely handle french. But hey, the dutch speak five languages and smoke pot so they've got us all beat.
I'd expect people on here to be more helpful, I know someone can give you an idea of whats wrong. Try posting in the technical forums.
From what I know about cars, which is very little compared to some people, I would say, I have no idea. If the ticking noise doesn't accelerate with the engine speed and is only at low rpms, I think thats odd. I haven't heard about it happening to anyone else.
Could be that the oil you have in is too heavy and might not be thin enough for the engine to lubricate itself at low temps. I dunno what the weather is like in switzerland. As an american, I would say it's cold and snowy there, because all of switzerland is covered by the alps. I know this from movies, such as "The Sound of Music" and Rocky and Bullwinkle.
Also, I know that if the swiss aren't yodeling, they're making knives or guarding the pope. I haven't seen a Pope-mo-rex yet. But I assume that's what you drive. As an intelligent american I realize that your poor english skills may lead you to believe that all previous statements were serious, therefore I will express the fact that I am joking.
I recomend going to the tech forums. Sorry to bother you. What do I mean I'm sorry, you're neutral, you wont fight me.

hey do you live near zermatt?
Is this only on start up and does the noise go away as the car worms up? How cold is it wee you live right now? What oil thickness do you use?

I have an 04' WRX wagon, and if I let it sit for more than 3 or 4 days, like in the summer when I'm off riding the motorcycle, it will start up with a "ticking" sound, just like after you change the oil and "dry" start it. Except, it takes a good minute or 2 to go away. It's wierd.
Other than that, no complaints, I'm just short of 20,000 trouble free miles.
during cold winter mornings this is a normal Subaru "problem." Not really problem just an annoyeness. What happens is in the cold your oil gets thicker so it takes a lot longer to get through your engine and heads.
I expect you have the same "problem" in summer. After sitting for a couple of days all your oil is now at the bottom of your oil pan and it takes a couple of minutes for it to go through the engine and heads. Again not a problem just something you have to get used to.
