I've no idea of whether anyone's already reported about this yet so, from http://www.crash.net/uk/en/news_view.asp?cid=80&nid=96107:TOTB Scooby Shootout
The second annual Scooby Shootout kicked off at Elvington Aerodrome on Bank Holiday Monday for the largest competitive line-up of Subarus ever.
No less than 80 Subarus took part along with 19 invite cars who though not sporting the Subaru badge were nevertheless allowed into the fray. This wasn't just for the fun of it, the best Scoobies on the day would go on to make up the places in the 22b.com (http://www.22b.com)'s team for the Redline TOTBIII finals. No pressure then.
With a clear azure sky and temperatures rising fast the first cars went out, screaming it up the strip the way only Scoobies can. It quickly became apparent that there was some serious hardware knocking around, with three sub 12 second runs being clocked before the half-way mark, including a stunning 10.98 @ 116 mph by George Smith in his black and white WRX. Cries of "holy ***t" could be heard all the way back to the paddock.
With the weather now firmly set to scorchio no one was surprised when this time wasn't beaten or when he went home the drag shootout champion.
Redline TOTBII alumni David Taylor ran an 11.79 @ 115 mph ¼ mile and managed to win the top speed discipline with 172.3 mph. Second place on the quarters went to Dee Ireland, only just missing out on the 10 second barrier with an 11.07 second ¼ mile terminating at 117 mph.
The posse of invite cars also put out some truly worthy performances with Redline TOTBII veterans Grant Parker in his Mk1 Golf running the quarter in 10.87 @ 123 mph and Andy "The Maestro is a Maestro" Nicholls clocking an 11.9 second ¼ mile, also @ 123 mph. Personal bests for both. As a final nail in the coffin of a superb day Dee Ireland's Supra almost incinerated the runway with a staggering top speed run of 201 mph - a new record over 1.25 miles at Elvington.
Watch out for a full report of the day coming soon.
