this is for my modded track car. i originally cut holes in the wheel well liner to improve flow to the brakes. i then installed a fmic and had to cut plastic liners, etc. under the car. it's all so weak right now that it pushes back into the tire. i think it's all going to blow off the next track day.
any reason why you wouldn't remove the plastic wheel well liner and flaps that are underneath on the front left and right sides? Basically removing everything that is flimsy and plastic except for the plastic undertray? i noticed the scca t-1 sti had removed these items on some pics posted about a month ago.

I think the purpose of those is purely to keep water, dirt, mud, rocks out of places they don't belong. If you're not worried about that, I don't see the harm. Aerodynamically, it may cause some pressure build up somewhere. I don't know.

Damn Luke... you need to cruise the car around so us locals can gawk at it:)
I think the purpose of those is purely to keep water, dirt, mud, rocks out of places they don't belong. There has to be a shop in Ft. Myers that could fab a partial fender liner (lightweight CF, fiberglass, or aluminum) maybe installed with Dzus fasteners. This might give you some liner rigidity and limited protection from debris.
What are your impressions of the current STi setup compared to your WRX One Lap car?
They are there to protect some of the wiring that goes through that area as well as the intake resonator/etc. on the passenger side. Of course you don't have those anymore. I never removed them on my SM car although they are torn to shreds. I could see it having an aerodynamic impact on the car but how much I have no idea.

The STi is great, just needs some handling goods because stock it has no feeling at all. If it wasn't for the One Lap, I wouldn't touch the engine, just put a big loud muffler on it so I could here the motor through my helmet. With handling goodies and stock engine, i was keeping up and passing some serious machines at sebring. porsche cca cars and even grand am cup cars. although, i must say the viper competition coupe is the most ridiculously fast car i've ever been passed by. But my wagon was still a little more "hooked up" in the handling dept.
The STi will be interesting. I pick it up at Turbo XS tomorrow. It should have about 150 more wheel hp than the wagon, on race gas. So it will be interesting to see how it behaves on the track. I've been doing the build up for 3 months, so you should see me tooling around every once in a while in Ft. Myers.
