Is it compatable with the older Ai-net HU's like the cda-7894?

According to Alpine's website, it is only compatible with 2004 Alpine Ai-NET.

With the older headunits, can you control the ipod via the headunit (i.e. change tracks, navigate through folders, etc.)?

I've got a 9813 and was wondering if there was even some degree of backwards compatibility, even if it doesnt allow me all the controls.

some people with older alpine HUs that arent listed on alpines site have gone ahead and installed the 420i and the results varied but i havent heard of anyone saying it didnt work .. use google and search for your HU + kca-420i and maybe someone somewhere has talked about it .. if you have alot of playlists/artists the alpine sounds disappointing...

I went ahead and ordered a new hu with the 420i, i dont think mine would work because the buttons for my folder search are also the buttons that pick weather you search by play list or by artist



I think you need a hu with the search buttons beside the rotary knob
