View Full Version : outback, legacy or something else?
JikJak 11-21-2004, 09:30 PM well i want to help my mom get a new car. something in the 45K price range.
she seems to like th outback so far. it would either be the 2.5 turbo or the 3.0 v6. im leaning towards the turbo but what do u guys think?
legacy is a possibility but she seems to like the outback more. i dont know too much about these 2 cars so please tell me what u all know!
what other good cars are there in this price range? g35? acura tl? cant think of anything else though.
hmm any useful info would be much appreciated

dmatthew 11-21-2004, 09:57 PM The Kia STI lookalike looks nice
MY bro just ordered his new Outback, but it won't be here until January. I tried to convince him on the Turbo Legacy but he likes the outback. Maybe it's an older people thing. They are all pretty good, i would recommend the H6 for your mom as she probably wouldn't appreciate the turbo of the 2.5....but I don't know your Moms.
JikJak 11-21-2004, 11:02 PM thanks denny but im interested in the tsx and also i want to get somethign brand new.
well based on the stats i prefer the turbo. they both have 250hp but the turbo also has 250 tq while the v6 is at 219 i believe. although it is for my mom, im gonna be bucking up for it too so i wanna make sure i like it as well hehehe.
im assuming its gonna be hard to mod the v6 but ill easily be able to make the turbo faster?
hows the mod market for that car as of now?
also whats the diff with the outback and legacy?
Ahh....I had a feeling you'd say that, especially after what happened to your GF's car.
I would definitely get the turbo then. Basically anything that fits your Sti will fit the Legacy. Same block and a lot of the same parts. I think they have different intercoolers, perhaps a different turbo but not sure. But all the engine bits are interchangeable....obciously you will need things that fir the legacy body though as far as exhaust etc. The aftermarket for the new Legacy is strong and many shops are already carrying a host of parts for it.
Kevin 11-22-2004, 12:09 PM Volvo V50 T5 AWD or maybe a V70 T5?
Mirage 11-22-2004, 12:18 PM I drove behind a white Acura RL SH-AWD last night. It looked pretty spiffy. Not sure how much they are tho.
dmatthew 11-22-2004, 02:35 PM your mom will most likely get the outback bec. it's cheaper so I say see which outback is better overall
JikJak 11-22-2004, 03:15 PM hey tora how is the aftermarket and possibility of sharing parts with the outback? outback stuff and legacy stuff are the same arent they?
the outback is actually more expensive than the legacy.
abd the price difference is only about a grand so price isnt a matter yet.
she keeps talking about volvos. but whats good about em? got anymore detailed info? i thought that thye arent too great hehe.
Jik, Outback will accept all parts from the legacy. The only major difference is the raised suspension, so if you think you will eventually lower it I'd say no point getting the outback. They weight more too. I was looking at the new GT the other day and I think they are great, I always thought the outbacks looked kinda funny. My brother loves his current one and that is why he is buying the new one. The only think there isn't a lot of yet for the Legacy as far as aftermarket is body kits and that sort of thing, but you can always get stuff from Japan if you really want it.

Personally, I really like the look of the 2005 S40. It comes with a turbo and with AWD. Since it's Volvo, it has got a little more prestige than the Subaru brand.
The S40 T5 AWD with automatic, sunroof, leather, 17" rims, power seats and mirrors, heated seats, HIDs, traction control etc. is around the price of a Legacy GT Ltd. ~ $45,800.
For a parent, that's definitely the way to go. That was actually the car I was pushing on my mom. She prefers the mini though. I've got no say - I'm not buying it for her!
JikJak 11-22-2004, 07:25 PM hmm not a bad looking car, but the hp is only 218.
i think thats too low. the v70 seems decent but i dont really like how it looks.
i should drop by the dealer though and see.
anything else worth looking at?
