View Full Version : Help with wet tire choice

I'm looking ahead to the 05 season and a complete tire buying spree (aka, I've worn out all my tires this year). The car is not a Subaru, but a prepared 87 CRX. I am looking for wet tires. Because of budget and what I already have, I plan to use the stock 14x5 wheels and tentitively will run 185-60-14's. These will only be used for wets as I already have chosen some 245-50-15 Hoosiers for the dry :D.

I'm only finding Yoko 032's and Victoracers in that size. For wet only, can anyone give me recommendations on grip between these 2? Wear is really not a factor and I won't use them in the dry. The car is roadraced only. I've run both tires in the past, but not in the wet.

thanks, jack

Rather than severely handicapping yourself by using the stock wheels, why not spend a few dollars on some wider 14" or 15" wheels? Then you could run one of the several Hoosier wet tires available in 205mm. Suitable used wheels in Honda fitments are a dime a dozen.

Steve,

I'm already springing for a light set of 15's and hoosiers for the drys and don't want to spend more for the wets with 3 sets of stock wheels sitting around. I did think about the Hoosier wets but don't want to buy yet another set of wheels this year. Maybe next season.

That sounds a lot like my approach before Solo2 Nationals this year - and I paid dearly for my frugality when the rain came down on Day2 . :(

(who now has a fresh set of Hoosier DirtStockers tucked away in his garage for those rainy days.) ;)
