It's winter time here in Canada, and we we had a snowfall on Thursday evening. I drive a 2004 Ts wagon with the all season tires. I was coming out of a curve too fast for the conditions, started to sway, than spun 180 degrees and went backwards onto the grass over the curb. Before I went backwards, I put it into neutrul so as to not hurt the transmission. I got home and saw that the left rear wheel had been hit and the car was riding kind of lumpyish. any idea what type of damage was done?l

so, did your tires catch before hitting so that you rolled directly over the curb, or were you still sliding and hit it at an angle?
You may need to get an alignment done.. and have a technician inspect your wheels for cracks or dents. If it will not align properly, you will need to replace some of the suspension components. Also, have the tires inspected, as hitting a curb can break the belts under the tread.
If the wheels are damaged, you can pick up steel wheels from tirerack for pretty cheap, and/or you could look for some take-off subaru wheels for pretty cheap on ebay. It never hurts to have an extra set of wheels for summer tires anyway.
Next time you start to slide.. stay on the gas and gently steer in the direction you want to go. Once you've started sliding, lifting the throttle abruptly -or worse, hitting the brakes- will spin you.

Thanks for the reply. I hit at an angle going backwards, theres a piece missing from the rear left rim. the tire is probably damaged.

Sounds like most of the energy was used up in damaging the wheel/tire. That would be good news. You will have to do a good visual under the car. If you don't have a good place to do this then just have the dealer inspect for you (good insurance against any further problems). If no further visual damage then just have them check the wheel alignment in case any more bits are bent.
Glad you didn't encounter any solid objects after leaving the road.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's not even my car, it's my dads, so yes, i am an inexperienced driver, although i have driven for 4 years now. I wasn't going fast, but too fast for the conditions. I shifted into nuetrul as soon as I was going backwards off the road. I thought it would save the drivetrain, so I didn't bounce and land going backwards whilst in drive. Yes I am luck, as there were poles and trees a few feet from me.
