we just installed them on the shop WRX and this is the verdict
took 10 min to install
hood is about 4 inches higher so there is more room to get to the motor

as far as closing the hood they glide smothly down without alot of force so these are safe for carbon hoods for sure about 8inches from the bottem they get really soft so you can drop the hood and close it without any pushing on it

I received my struts as promised yesterday. Many thanks to Kozz. They shipped the same day the order was placed. :)

Install was a breeze, even in the dark, but I'd suggest just putting the whole strut assembly together at one time and then mounting the tabs and posts. The inlcuded instructions have you do some convoluted half assembly, install, final assembly thing.

Hood action is extremely smooth and just as easy to close as without the struts. Underhood acces is greatly impoved. Fit and finish are top notch and they even inlcude a small bottle of thread lock and grease!

For those who wish to have a differect color strut body, painting would be extremely easy. The modluar design means that all you'd have to do is strip the stickers and cover up the piston shaft. No elaborate masking or anything.

I'll try to post some pics later tonight.

just got my dampers today!!!.. .. a question though.. you're supposed to apply the grease to the ball joints.. what abt the thread lock(the other bottle of lubricant).. :huh: ..

Thread lock is for all screw in parts... extension, ball screws, etc. Just use a little bit on the threads and put it together!

shock tube ends at 10.5"

Nothing scientific here, could be off a .1 or .2, but that's with my hood open and the shocks are fully extended.

I should add, that I'm using the extenders that screw in, forgot about that. It's included in the measurements, and it's a little more than 1.5"

I see the top part mounts to the regular hood mounting point but how does the other part mount? Is it to an existing screw?

I think the issue would be more about stock aluminum hoods since carbon fiber will flex and spring back under pressure... at least a decent carbon fiber hood.

Tein gives you all the required hardware. You actually replace that bolt with one that has a ball on the end. It makes for a quick and easy install.

These are the best quality you're going to find out there. If you don't want them in green, Vision sells the same kit in a stainless finish (although I do know for sure if the shock body is actually stainless steel).

The Vision kit is a little more expensive though, and I'm not sure if anyone in the US is ditributing them.

The other stainless kit out there is not bolt in. It requires drilling an extra hole in the fender and securing with a pop rivet.

Good news is that I will have them finished soon and pictures to boot. Estimated price is going to be less than HALF the Tein kit and have shock boots too!!!!!!
