View Full Version : Kartboy short shifter=good pick?
Subystud 12-02-2004, 07:34 AM Is the Kartboy short shifter a good pick for a short shifter? Does it keep the same stock shifter height, or does it lower is dramatically? If you have one, is it easy to use? If it sucks, which short shifter is a good choice?
skyhawk 12-02-2004, 08:55 AM I believe that you will find the kartboy is the most popular of the SS's used by the members of this forum. It is great, it lowers the grip a bit, not sure by how much. If you get one you won't be disappointed. Get the bushings also. Scoobymods.com has a thread on how to install both of them. If you want the specific reduction of throw or how much it lowers the grip just search for kartboy short shifter as there are a ton of threads on it. Also replace the grip while you are at it. There are a ton of choices on the grip also.
Good luck
Glen
GoRacerXGo 12-02-2004, 11:31 AM to be short: definitely a good choice, if not the best.

Should be sweet.
migs76 12-02-2004, 01:22 PM shortens the shift throw, not the height so much. ppl have taken a few threads off tho. one of my first mods. love it.
express_wagon 12-02-2004, 01:27 PM IMO, the wrx should have a shifter this short to begin with. but i also have one with the bushings...it should be every person's first mod. but take this advice, buy the shifter used...i bought mine brand new and spent at least $40 more than i should. new or old, they do the same work with great efficiency. its not like you see the actual rod after you put the shifter boot back on.
PARANOID56 12-02-2004, 01:30 PM yea, i will have to say, that the kartboy shifter is the best one out there. i love mine, just make sure you get the bushings too. :D

Panic 12-02-2004, 01:45 PM the shorter throw is great and the shifter height isn't changed all that much but in my opinion the best part of the mod was the kartboy shifter bushing...
No more churning butter with those stock bushings in there...If you are going to get the shifter do yourself the favor and get the bushings also...
One of my favorite mods also
get the STi SS with the Kartboy bushings... I swear by it and those who've played with mine love it too!
mkalbarc 12-02-2004, 02:36 PM I have a SS from the factory. Would I benefit from installing the Kartboy bushings?
Yea, it'd be stiffer... I installed the bushings when I installed the SS, so I can't tell you how much of a diff you'll feel... but i'd imagine it'd be quite significant.
it feels so precise... for the money, they really should come like this from the factory
samwY 12-02-2004, 04:31 PM I love mines.
I throw shifts all over the place with ease.
ButtDyno 12-03-2004, 12:21 PM Don't forget the Knuckleball. It rocks :)
pagel 12-03-2004, 11:24 PM Best mod I ever did. Get a lower, shortest, expensive MoMO wood knob also. Shifts like a dream...snick, snick, snick.
I put in the Kart bushing but I won't stake my life that it made any improvement by itself. It's harder to install that the lever.
I've put aftermarket HURST shifters in dozens of cars since they first came on the market ('67?) (Corvettes, TransAMs, etc), and the KartBoy is far better.

Is it ok to buy a used one for an MY04? Were there any changes in the SS when the MY04's came out?
This has to be the fourth KB SS thread for the last couple of days.
Bottom line: Yes!!11one1 They are worth every penny... Get them..blah blah. You wont be sorry.
Edit: Even if they are used.
