View Full Version : UTEC not retarding ignition

I was doing some tuning the other day and I had a little knock up high in the rpm range, so I pulled a degree of timing and thought i had fixed it. But when I looked at the logs, the actual ignition timing recorded was much higher than the target, mostly 1-2 degrees but as much as 6. This worries me greatly, does anyone know why or what i can do to fix it? Thanks.

Try posting a log so you can get suggestions for your specific issues.

I dont have a log it is on my other laptop in the car that is extra ghetto. Does anyone have any general suggestions or reasons why the UTEC would do this? Basically with an 80% load setting, at 5000 rpm my ignition map is set to 18 degrees, but when I log a run with the car actually going, I will see something like 20 degrees at the same load point.

Maybe the temp compensation in the preferences could do that?

Assuming you don't have temperature compensation on:

You have two different ignition columns in your logger (#1 right?). The one that is titled, "ign #1" is what the ecu wants to run. "Mod ign" is what the UTEC is set at. If your UTEC is set at 18 degrees and you're under UTEC control, that is what your ignition advance will be, regardless of what the ECU wants to do.

So, if your UTEC is set at 18 degrees at 5000 RPM in the 80% column and youre operating in that cell, you're getting 18 degrees of advance. That 20 is telling you the ECU would be running 20 degrees of advance if it were in control. You're just looking at the wrong column in your log.

wow, thats embarassing. so ign #1 is what the ecu would run, and mod ign is what the UTEC is actually running at. Thanks for clearing that up.
