Why do all Evo's seem to run way lower timing than wrx's? This link http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=101815&highlight=utec+log has a Utec log from an Evo and it runs super low timing especially in the mid range. I looked at some Utec maps and they are about the same way. Is it because the Evo head flows better? I'm just trying to figure why they can get 350 whp from a 16g. I know the motor is a better platform, but whats up with this timing.

That would be my educated guess; that, rod length, and camshaft profile.

My guess is because the person tuning that car was an idiot.

Longer the stroke, longer the rod, the longer a piston stays at TDC, the longer it's at TDC, and the more efficient the head, the less you need to light off the mixture sooner.
Add to that an extremely efficient design, and you have a great formula..
Remember, timing is simply a crutch for poor VE and design.

Rift > > I read in another post about the low timing that you run. Why is that? I think I am going to try a whole different method to tuning and see what happens.

Well remember... my car is quite different from your average WRX, with a completely different engine, stroke, and head design. As the AFR thread goes on to edify, I'm rather unique from the norm. If you want to experiment with this, please do so with the utmost of care.

I see. I thought you were running a 205 motor.
