I just tried to upload the new UTEC software onto my UTEC.. i've done it before when i switched from 2.5 to 3.x back when that came out.

Anyway i must have hit the wrong dipswitch. I thought i flipped the right one (there are only two) and proceeded uploading ->it was loading up and then it gave me an error while in the Flash program. I turned the ignition off, rebooted the laptop and tried again but then it wouldnt even start loading it just gives me an error message says which implies the UTEC is not responding.

At that point i thought "**** i flipped the wrong switch".. so i turned the ignition off, waited for red UTEC light to turn off, disconnected my car battery and reconnected it. Put the switch i moved back and turned the ignition on to check things.. but i couldnt access the UTEC with the laptop and my CEL did not flash when i turned the car on. Also, the car cranks but doesnt start. I turned Ign. off again and waited for light to go out.

I tried flipping the CORRECT dipswitch (the bottom one from what i can vaguely make out) and uploading like normal but it gave me same error trying to upload in the flash program.

Giving up on uploading, i put switch back to normal and turned ignition on again but no flashing CEL and the car wont start.

So what can i do?

You need to get a computer that the UTEC can interface well with and fully upload the firmware.

Try your desktop.

I've been using this laptop for years though with the UTEC, its the same one that i uploaded the last version with. If nothing else works i'll put a 9v in the UTEC and bring it inside but you dont have to technically.

Does anyone know which way the first switch (the one i wasnt supposed to touch) is supposed to be facing so i can make sure its correct?

So the switch i was supposed to move is the one on top?

Which way are they supposed to be facing under normal operation? I need to know "left or right"

Ohhh ok when i quote this i can understand it because its in order! I'll go make sure they are both to the right now and try and start my car.. if that works i'll try uploading again. thanks!

Alright i went and checked the UTEC and i do have both switches turned toward the right, which according to your default settings that were posted, is correct. But the UTEC is still not responding? No flashing CEL on startup either.

I had a similar problem with my UTEC. I was uploading 4.2c and I followed all of the instructions perfectly. After it was done loading, I got a message saying that it was loaded and successfully verified. Then I opened Hyperterminal and tried connecting to UTEC. It connected, but it would not communicate with UTEC.

I ended up calling TurboXS and spoke with Nathan there. He told me that he thought the dipswitch was somehow broken. This caused the UTEC to think it was stuck in "reflash" mode. Maybe this is what has happened to you?? Just a thought.

Maybe, if i cannot figure it out tomorrow morning i will definatly call them of course but i'll try and troubleshoot it myself first before i call them up and admit defeat.

The switch has only been used one time before today so i wouldnt think it would be broke after only being used a few times!

Thanks everyone for advice so far!

Worst case scenario i'll uninstall the UTEC and use stock ECU until problem solved although i wouldnt be able to go WOT or get into boost really because of mods..

Oh BTW, what was really broken with your UTEC? Did you send it back to them or something?

I'm at home at the moment but if you get confused about which switch to throw try the following.

For a UTEC with two switches. Make a note of the current switch settings.

To put the UTEC in reflash mode switch BOTH switches away from the main white PCB connector.

Power up the UTEC and then run the reflash program making sure that there are no other programs running that use the serial port (this includes Hyperterminal). Remove power from the UTEC.

Assuming you get a successful reflash then switch BOTH switches towards the main white PCB connector. Power up the UTEC and check that it is working via Hyperterminal.

Switching both switches eliminates switching the wrong switch however if you are running high boost that require the FCD safety to be switched off you will need to switch the appropriate switch to disable this (check the user manual).

p.s. I suggest you double check this as I am away from my notes.

Ok i will check in the morning and try again.. the last time i did this it took like 5 minutes its very easy, i must have moved the wrong one this time. the thing that worries me is that for a few seconds it looked like it was uploading the blue progress bar at the bottom was moving and then it gave me an error message.

Thanks for the info. Pete!

If it did look like it was progressing and then stopped you should try it again but manually lower the baud rate of the flash program (one of the options).
