View Full Version : 10's & low 11's? 20pwns 12-07-2004, 10:30 PM Just wondering if anyone has gone low 11's or scratched the 10's with a stock block? No N20, just turbo. JewPac42 12-07-2004, 10:32 PM I run 10's in the 1/8th. 2002WRXSTi 12-07-2004, 10:32 PM I do believe the guys in PR are at the low 11's range and Pavlo has gone 10's I think but he is using a GC8 so  foofoo982 12-08-2004, 12:34 AM Probably depends what you define stock as, because the JDM or EDM wrx could easily do much better than a USDM wrx in the 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile. Plus you have to factor in the track location. It's possible but very very hard. Which block anyways? EJ207? EJ257? 2002WRXSTi 12-08-2004, 01:39 AM Well I can say one thing and it will make me look bad  A car with the same HP and Torque as me in the next lane did a 11.4@122. My clutch was slipping the entire run and is not getting any better so I pulled a 12.6@116. When I get a clutch that will hold I will swap to a GT30 and go for 500WHP on all turbo :D Damn Exedy Carbon crap  20pwns 12-08-2004, 05:02 AM ...Which block anyways? EJ207? EJ257? For both actually. JDM 2L is a valid subject as well because it's quite readily available here. Damn Exedy Carbon crap Ah ha, you are learning it the hard way, too, I see. I buddy had a Bullied CARBON, and yes, it was crap from day 1. I feel for you. So your car could very well be in the 11's, I couldn't say know how deep tho... What is your hp and torque and would you mind telling us what you have done? What car was next to you during that pass? ...guys in PR are at the low 11's range Who are these guys and where can I find 'em? What is PR? Thanks! 20pwns Ruff 12-08-2004, 05:30 AM PR = Puerto Rico and Pavlo is a guy on here (that's his username) Pavlo 12-08-2004, 05:41 AM :) Honestly I don't think the stock block is good for 10s in any Impreza, my block is far from stock. With pistons in, and half right cams you could probably do 10s in a GC8 with the appropriate turbo. If you stripped the hell out of a new age car, it would make a big difference, but you really need those forged pistons to enable a good enough tune for high power. There are many instances of cracked pistons within the stock ej257s that have been pushed hard in the UK and the US, too many for me to think they were just unlucky anyway. Paul happasaiyan 12-08-2004, 07:52 AM 11.2@128 / 504whp. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=588640 on a USDM STi. should be good enough for 10s with a 128 trap. Pavlo 12-08-2004, 02:16 PM It could well be, but it might be the last 1/4mile it ever travels! Piston upgrade on a EJ257 *appears* to make a very solid bottom end for very little increase in cost. Paul happasaiyan 12-08-2004, 02:27 PM i thought they already tore it down? must be in progress... midnite_wrex 12-08-2004, 05:29 PM Honestly I don't think the stock block is good for 10s in any Impreza, my block is far from stock. anybody remember the 10.86 a while back... on a stock block 205. Pavlo 12-08-2004, 05:59 PM anybody remember the 10.86 a while back... on a stock block 205. No actually. I would be interested to see though. Was that the green wrx with autobox? Seem to remember that had a 150shot or something? I suppose that for 11 seconds almost anything can hold together once! Paul JBlizzy 12-08-2004, 06:47 PM Ah ha, you are learning it the hard way, too, I see. I buddy had a Bullied CARBON, and yes, it was crap from day 1. I feel for you. I just had the ATS triple plate put in with a driveshaft shop aluminum driveshaft, and i will say the thing grabs hard enough to rip your face off. Ive heard bad things about the exedies, but this bad boy is rated at 1000hp. I already went through a clutchmasters stage 3 w/ fidanza fw, which are both garbage and not meant to cope with the heat of an awd launch. The ats is a push type a little rougher on launch (especially with the longer 1st gear i got) but it makes up for it in clamping force. Chatter is kinda cool too. I havent launched it yet. Last time i had it tuned, which was 2 years ago on the stock tranny and stock headers i put down 300whp @ 16psi. Now using gtspec V2 with PAR synchro gearset, kaaz 1.5way front, and the above.. will let u know how things turn out i have yet to launch it but so far it hooks up like nobody's business. Bump to Dan @ Godspeed for the hookup! It was worth every penny. schnoog 12-08-2004, 10:12 PM Sponaugle did high 11's at PIR...that was on a WRX block with JDM STi RA heads and an STi tranny. I think he had the 20G in at the time...not sure though. He had the WRX block in there while he was working on his STi RA block...the WRX block took a real beating but kept on going! On the next few weeks we are going to be ready. We hope to run 10s on the first weeks of January. Alson on my opinion I really think that the STI motor is capable to run 10s. (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8228209&postcount=2355) The car I raced was a DSM that was dynoed on the same dyno as me. He made the same HP/Trq as my car did but, he has a clutch that was slipping to so he claims? Obviously not as bad as mine tho  Mine slips like mad almost from the get go but, it really starts to slip on the top end. I have my car settup so with the tires and gearing 4th gear hits redline at 120mph. I am bouncing off the limiter at 112! So when I shift into 5th it bogs the car way down because it's not going fast enough, it's really just slipping. So I will have to put in my R180 and look for a clutch that will handle the small HP that I am making for now. Reason I went with the Carbon was trying to let the R160 live cause I have enough money into that thing already  JBlizzy 12-20-2004, 05:01 AM Well I would tell ya what I have but it's all posted here pretty much... What most people dont understand about the wrx vs the sti, is that the wrx is more biased towards the front so the r160 doesnt take as much of a beating unless you put in a 50/50 or dccd where you're sending more power to it. the driveshaft will help. Also, just replace it with a kaaz 1.5 way and you'll be golden. 2002WRXSTi 12-20-2004, 06:09 AM Dude im telling you get the ATS triple!! I ain't spending that kinda money and just walking away from it and trying something else till I have explored all avenues with it. I know all about what the R160 will take as I already have a CUSCI LSD in it with 3:90 gears to go with my 6MT with DCCD that is non functional. Also ESX was using a R160 well into the 9's before they finally switched. Yeah they were using an auto so that helped a lot but still :p Scoobie Steve 12-20-2004, 02:18 PM I am running 11's on a stock engine and IHI turbo. Its mostly in the driver. I have been listening to 2002WRXSTi call 11's for months ;) I am not gonna call anything but I will say that in the spring I will be running much faster on stock block with a larger IHI turbo. Might even squirt a little NOS! 2002WRXSTi 12-20-2004, 09:20 PM I am running 11's on a stock engine and IHI turbo. Its mostly in the driver. I could be totally off track with this one, here's a thread that has all about it clicky (http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=359233) MARKGSTI 12-21-2004, 07:56 PM I think this has been done by a guy in the UK called Andy Forrest, I know that he was featured in the first issue of Scooby Magazine with a time of 10.76 1/4 mile, he has since got a time of 10.52 @ 135mph he used 50 shot of nitrous to achieve this. As more people start moving away from older turbocharger setups(IHI's/greens/pe1820's), and they start steping up to the plate to "TRUE" gt30 and gt35rs i think we will see the 1/4 times drop for stock block STIs...but 10's is still gonna be hard to do. Next summer should be fun...seeing some Subbys run Fast times...I'm gonna give u guys a run for ur money  Pavlo 12-21-2004, 08:11 PM I think this has been done by a guy in the UK called Andy Forrest, I know that he was featured in the first issue of Scooby Magazine with a time of 10.76 1/4 mile, he has since got a time of 10.52 @ 135mph he used 50 shot of nitrous to achieve this. Andy's 'block' is far from stock! These guys are really talking about short engines, including rods and pistons. I don't think you can really call Andy's stock when Subaru don't even make a 2.3 engine like he has! Paul |
