Anyone know if any PocketPC data logging software exists yet? I did a search, but didn't find anything very recent. I saw AutoEnginuity's ScanTool, but it's hideously expensive.

Is anyone even interested in this? I'm trying to find a good way to log my AFRs and EGTs in some pulls, but I'm not interested in paying hundreds of dollars for it. I'm thinking of maybe writing some software to do it for PocketPC, and maybe fabbing a serial or bluetooth dongle for the OBD port. Just going to work on it in my spare time with no real intent to market it, but I was wondering if anyone else has been looking for this...

I saw that, can't figure out why it costs $250 though. Seems like alot to me.

I have a compaq ipaq 3765 running familiar linux.

when i console into the utec using minicom, the menuing works for a few seconds.. then the screen freezes. I havent tried slowing the baud rate, but i suspect that is the problem.

If you look in the vendor announment section hee you will see pictures. It is a self contained unit with display intended to be left in the car about the size of a radar detector. We also provide a custom palm application that will display full datalogs from the unit in many different ways and in color, it does 0-60 time, 1/4 mile time, and speed. It displays acceleration in g's. It can also check, display and clear codes. If you compare it to the psi or ecutek dash display it is less than half the price and does twice as much. We also get many more frames per second that others due to the special software we have written called "priority scan". At $250 it is quite a good deal for the functionalty and performance.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say bad things about it. I simply meant it seems too expensive for the limited amount of things I want to do. It does look like a good deal, but it is written for Palm and not Pocket PC.

You will need slightly more than a dongle... But there are a few available. The easiest and least expansive are all based on the ELM 32x chip, which handles all communication timing issues. Scantool.net has the cheapest, and odb2crazy.com has a similar one with USB. You can get the data sheet from ELM Electronics directly and build it yourself, or get a kit from Scantool.net. Once you have done that, the problem is the software... None of it is very good. And while the Elm chip is easy to program, the interface is poorly documented, so you have to hunt around for a while. This is what I am doing. Once I have something, I may look at porting to Palm, as that is what I have. Or, a commercial software in beta right now is showing promise...

I program on PICs pretty regularly, so I have access to a compiler, programmer, etc. I was looking at a schematic at obddiagnostics.com that doesn't look too hard. Essentially you just need to interpret data from the diagnostics port and output it on a UART so the handheld can read it.
