For starters here's the list of my mods:

USDM Sti shortblock w/wrx heads using USDM Sti cams
ACT clutch w/street-strip disc
Sti-Ra gearset
USDM Sti struts on Tein S-techs
Goodridge SS brake lines
4-pots
2-pots
Hotchkis street sway bar set
APS DR650 FMIC
VF22
Sti pink injectors
UTEC
Walbro 255lph pump
APS cold air intake
Sti group-N motor and tranny mounts
EBC greenstuff on my 4-pots
MRT replica Front lip
ROTA actions (gold)
Sti hood scoop and splitter
OEM short shifter

Anyhow, I decided to see what she'd do down the 1/4 mile after my recent install of RA gears. Turned out to be a good night to go as there were few cars. Runs were made at MORORSO Motorsports Park here in FL. SO, I line up against an '02 Saleen Mustang. This thing was supercharged and running drag radials. Survey says: (for reference I'm 9874, the mustang is 8721)
9874 8721
R/T .160 -.282
60' 1.929 2.362
330 5.400 5.844
1/8 8.268 8.723
MPH 84.57 86.03
1000 10.756 11.174
1/4 12.836 13.242
MPH 109.11 109.38

Needless to say that I won due to him redlighting, but still a close race and MY NEW PERSONAL BEST.

12.8@109mph!!!! Forgot to mention that previous best was a 12.994@104mph

love you pacobeagle, I met you at towers last friday and got to actually see "the beast". Nice times

1000 12.836 13.242, 1/4 mile (1320 i think) right?

Oh BTW glad to see that the RA gears helped. Sick setup.

With that trap speed you should be looking at mid 12's with practice. I'm running a 12.7 @ not quite 106mph. So 12.4's and 12.5's should be in your future with a 109mph trap speed.

I've been waiting for a review of RA gears in a drag race! How's the launch with the longer first gear? Any hop? Also, what RPM were you at the end of the 1/4? Thanks.

wow what a terrible launch for the mustang. 2.3 with drag radials. I think you would have been in for it if that guy could drive.

McBain- No wheel hop, I think I was around 5-6k rpm when launching. 4th gear came quick. I'm talking around half track or so. By the end of the race, i'd be at the top of 4th.
Slick- I'll agree with you. But I'll take a win when I can. ;-)
WrxJim- It all depends, I primarily use the car for auto-xing and this setup works well. I really just wanted to see what difference the Ra gears made at the track you know.

Top of fourth, nice ... ... That's really good info to have ... I know I'm always frustrated due to just barely having to shift into 4th right at the last 100ft-150ft or so ... Would be very nice to have fourth as a functional gear ... Of course now I just need the power to actually be in the top of fourth instead of the bottom ... ... Gears would help me out, but not that much being stock ... Good numbers BTW, and what a crappy launch for the Rustang, with drag radials he should be in the 1.6-1.7 range or better ...

You have a nice mod list...and your mph was pretty good. 60ft left much to be desired and his was horrible. Congrats on the win. Its looks like you guys are making similiar hp due to your trap speeds.

The Mustang drivers poor launch was more than likely caused by fear. He knew he needed a great launch to stay with the subaru but he failed. :D

Your ET isn't that great for your mph, and neither is his. Battle it out a few more times and see what happens ;)

PEZMAN, there are a lot of people that would consider the gearset first. The whole "fun factor" is amplified. It's like the first time you drove a car by yourself at 16!!! Simply amazing.

yea i think you could get that 60' down and run some nice 12's..... did u see any other runs by the mustang?

Pacobeagle

All runs were low 13's!!!

The S351 is where it's at :)

With a stock VF30 and a JDM ECU I was trapping at 109 and my best ET was a 12.51. Moslty crappy 60's in the 1.8 to hi 1.7's but, I was doing this with a JDM 6MT and I was in 4th in the traps.

Now that I have modded the car more I did some gearing math and it seems that the clutch was slipping pretty mutch the whole time at the topend in 4th.

To get the ET down with that trap you need to do a better 60' and things will start getting better ;)

The mods added after the 12.994@104mph were USDM Ver. 8 Sti struts, Sti-Ra Gearset. Everything was the same.

Let's not forget that this was at Moroso - one of the very slowest tracks in the country. Imagine driving along the bottom of a lake - and that's what the air is like at Moroso.

I tuned this car: it's flat out maxing the vf22 - the boost just can't keep up with the engine up high. It falls from 19psi at peak to about 12.5-13psi at 7000.

Nice run, Jose! Keep it up!

Yeah but he had the MPH so he has the HP. You don't trap without Horespower so if he practices his launch technique he should be able to bring his ET down :)

Nah, I just don't have time on SAturday. I'm thinking about NEXT Saturday, if TP is open, and if I can get at least three (paying) cars to come and play. Otherwise, it's just not worth my time in the car there and back, plus all the hanging around involved in a TP dyno day.
