I have done a system or 10 in cars over the years but have not done anything in a WRX. I am going to do the following (I think):

Alpine 7831 (in the car already)

Dynaudio 7" seperates in kick panels.

Image Dynamics IDQ10V2 in a sealed enclosure

Macintosh MC406M Amp

2 Audio Control digital crossovers (to run the mids actively crossed and for the sub)

Audio Control EQT's or Alpine digital eq.

All the usual soundproofing and good wires, 1.5 farad cap.

It should be a good SQ install...not loud or boomy. I like it simple and HQ. Are there any pitfalls to a WRX wagon install I need to know about?

I would definitely go for more power on the components, dynaudios are not very efficient at all, from what I hear they really need 2-300rms a side to really open up. Especially considering they won't be in the quietest car known to man ;)

I have the speakers already, as well as the head. I can do the whole thing for about 4K installed, I think.

As for the Dyns, the trick is to have good power going to them, crossed over actively. The passive crossovers don't sound as good.....the difference is tremendous. I run 50 watts to each driver. More than enough. Unless you want to be deaf.

I'm just going off of what I've heard from every Dyn owner I've ever spoken to. Very clean power and a LOT of it seems to be the only way to get them to realize their potential. One guy was running a DLS A3 to a set of the 240 GTs (150x2), and another A3 to his sub. He decided to bridge an A3 to each side of the 240 set, that's 500 to each side. He basically said the difference in depth and clarity was just profound. Another guy who had the 240 (forgot whether it was the GT or MKII) was running them on around 150x2, and as soon as he put them on closer to 250-300x2 they just sounded so much better (same basic results as the other one). I believe he was running Brax amps at the time.

I don't have any experience with Dyn though so I'm not going to argue, I'm just saying what I've heard.

Hmmm...interesting. My previous big setup had a Rockford (old, real, hi q rockford) 400.4 running them and it was a beautiful setup. I almost ran SQ+ competition with the setup. I think it has a lot to do with the quality of the power going to them...but I certainly see your point. The other BIG thing was to do with them is to run them active without the Dynaudio crossovers. It made a GIGANTIC difference. I couldn't believe it when I did it before.

I went to the shop today to scope things out...looks like it's now a 3 way set instead....6"s or 7"s in the doors, 4 and 1 in the kick panel with two McIntosh amps instead of one. I think my wallet is on fire.
