Hi guys,

I need some advice regarding my engine build and am hoping someone out there might be able to help.

I have options regarding where to start. The only thing I have for certain is some hard ass con rods, good for over 600bhp.

The thing is I am aiming for 450lbft and 450bhp, so I need the right hardware to make this happen.

I am running a 22B in the uk, and although the engine is fine, I am removing its short block and have access to the heads as donors for the new short block (although i would rather buy new sti heads, it is proving difficult).

In short, block wise where do i start? whatever i choose, it will be closed deck. SO do I go for 2.2, 2.2T or 2.5.

If I run either 2.2, I will be changing the crank to a phase 2 2.5 to increase the stroke, I would leave the 2.5 at standard displacement.

I just want to know the differences in the blocks between the 2.2 and the 2.2t. Are they marked differently as the block in the 22B just says EJ22 on it. I am inclined not to get the 2.5 as the headwork required to mod the sti heads lokos like a nightmare, but there are companies over here. Are there any other head options out there that will run to over 8k rpm safely?

And one final point. Anyone have any idea where I can get a closed deck 2.2 or 2.2t from?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Adam

Bill,

I am actually looking for a supplier in the US to ship it to england.

Chances of finding it over here are minimal.

Can you tell me the diff between the 2.2 and the 2.2t?

and by any chance how much you paid for it?

thanks,

Adam

(ps. dont want to sacrifice existing 2.2, would rather build another)

Adam, you already have the most sought after engine in all of Subey Land. You have the best block. I think JUN makes a stroker kit that will take you to 2.4 liters. Leave the rest alone! If you can't handle leaving your 22B alone, please ship it to me. I will gladly send you my much bigger displacement 2.5 RS. You would make all of your Euro buddies very jealous by having a left hand drive, big block Subey. I'll even let you have the turbo and nitrous on it. So, do we have a deal?:D

Adam,

We meet again... ;)

He's not mad... the Legacy / liberty 2.2t block is closed deck, with oil squirters etc... not a bad starting point for a good engine. The stock heads are pretty crap flow-wise, and can't be ported out by much without cutting into the water galleries - bigger valves won't really fit in either. Basically you will need a better flowing head.....

Not many were sold in the UK - availability is better over there.

Shot peened Legacy rods were used in the Group A Legacy & Imprezas... those 'pre-restrictor' WRC engines had a VERY high power potential.

Laters,

Alex

What if you got a legacy 2.2L turbo engine, with some EJ20 heads? Would that work? The 2.2L engine is kinda rare around here too. They were made from 1992-1994. Many legacy turbo's that I have seen are high in miles. If you look around, you may find a dealer/shop that has one laying around. With all that said, you want to sell me a 22B engine for cheap? My car has a 2.2L engine!;) It isn't no closed deck, but it does make a awe inspireing 140hp!!! Send me a PM if you are interested in a trade.

Oh yeah, check with Cobb Tuning, because they make a 2.5L open deck into a closed deck. Yummm.... torque! No replacement for displacement!
