Hey guys. Last week I had fuel injector #4 replaced, in yet another effort to cure a P0304 CEL that's been lit intermittently for a year. (Loooong story...)

When the job was done (by a dealership), I noticed the interior smelled like gas fumes. I didn't let it bother me, figuring that the job lended to a little bit of fume/off-gassing, and would pass in a day or two. Well, it's now been a week, and the smell is still there.

If I pick up the hood, I can definitely catch a whif. I was supposed to go to the dealership this morning to have them check it out, but forgot we're receiving a new refrigerator shipment from Sears, so I have to be here to wait for it. Thought I'd ask you guys in the meantime, to see what might've been forgotten/not connected, or if I shouldn't worry.

Many thank-yous and a dancing banana.

I take it that it didn't leak before the injector swap? If not, well, thats more than likely your problem. Maybe the mechanic simply didn't fit the injector o-ring properly, or possibly used a wrong part.

I'd also check the EVAP System's charcoal canister for leaks and cracks. Also, check all the hoses associated with the canister. I think ours is located near the back of the car in the bumper area so this wouldn't explain the under hood smell.

Other possible areas worth looking into:

1. Leaks around the Purge Control Solenoid Valve
2. Improperly seated Air filter
3. Leaks around the Fuel Damper Valve
4. Leaks around the Fuel Cut Valve

Seems like you're in an awful good mood to have a smelly car :disco:

Well it won't be a job that'll cost me anything, considering it didn't stink when I brought it to them. :D So in that respect, I'm not concerned. They'll fix it.

Thanks for the list!

Just FYI, had the car fixed today. Had some time in the a.m. so I brought it in and waited. Only took an hour, or a bit more.

Turns out injector #2 was leaking. The service manager estimated that it was bumped when #4 was being replaced. The tech removed and replaced the O-ring for #2, and the car smells fine now.

No charge.
