View Full Version : 12 seconds
Me&STi 12-16-2004, 07:36 PM I'm looking in to putting some power gainers on my 05 WRX STi and I'm targeting 12 seconds in a 1/4 mile.
The setup:
IHI VF34 turbo
STi Pink 565cc injectors
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
ECU upgrade (XEDE or ECUtek)
APS 3" High Output TBE w/ CAT
Suspension upgrades (you guys know what's up)
Will be running 91 octane gas (not planning on higher octanes)
Will I hit early/late 12 seconds with this setup?
phyzical 12-16-2004, 08:40 PM depends on if you can shift
You may also wanna look at a slightly bigger TMIC to that you can get yourself on higher boost comfortably.

Me&STi 12-16-2004, 09:38 PM Shifting... sure, been practicing and I'm comfortable speed shifting. Yea... a bigger TMIC will come in later, I wanna see first if I can hit 12's with this setup. I guess prior to your responses, it seem like it's still not enough to get late/early 12's. I'm guessing, because both responses kinda hit it around the bush.
jaypine 12-16-2004, 09:50 PM Don't bother with the VF34 "upgrade" for the Sti. The smallest upgrade I would recommend for the Sti is the 18G.
stickman 12-16-2004, 09:56 PM should be able to get 12's with just stock turbo and TBE and tuned engine management.
VF 39 and VF 34 are pretty much the same turbo and would seem like a waste of money to me.
cooter 12-16-2004, 10:03 PM STi Pink 565cc injectors
Good luck putting those top feed injectors in place of the STi's side feed injectors....unless you're planning on changing the fuel rail out also.
Some more research is in order for you. Search! :D
weitek 12-16-2004, 10:03 PM im surprised noone has mentioned the car is capable of 12's stock. learning to drive the car to its potential is by far the most cost effective "mod".

I hear ya. Learning to how to launch these cars is everything. I recomend going to a track and practice working on 60ft times and shifting fast.
STi=12.4 proven w/ just:
turbo-back
headers
drop-in filter
UTEC
Drews_WRX 12-16-2004, 10:38 PM like someone said earlier....just a TBE and Xede,Ecutek,AccessPort, UTEC should all be good enough for 12.5-12.9 @ 105-110mph if you can launch and shift.
I got a ride in a Cobb stage 2 STI....wow, talk about torque....felt like it had a V8 in there....with a cam.
SilverSurfer04STi 12-16-2004, 11:34 PM Drews_WRX is right. I just did a Cobb stg II + gtspec header on my 04STi and it is very torquey. Lots of useable power. Haven't dragged with it yet, but seems it would be in the high or mid 12's with good driving. Will have to wait until spring to find out where I live though. :(
I agree. Don't get a VF34. Spend your dough on something better for the STi...

excellent point... there is more than one stock STi in the (albeit very high) 12's
Mr. Bungle 12-17-2004, 02:09 AM screw the vf34, get the Superzilla, hehehe
I love mine.

Like a radio
Me&STi 12-17-2004, 03:57 AM Thanks! I just realized I need to know a little more about injectors... so more search for me. I appreciate you bringing it up.
The only concerns about having TBE on a stock turbo is boost creep. This is why I'm looking in for a turbo upgrade. PE1820 any good?
If not, any recommendations on turbo's?
stickman 12-17-2004, 09:49 AM STi owners have had good results w/ porting exhaust housing on the turbo to reduce or eliminate boost creep.
a good turbo for the 2.5L STi is FP green, FP 20G (although not as potent as the green).
stock turbo will still get ur 12's w/ stock injectors. catless turbo back exhaust (TBE) and EM (UTEC) tuned will do it for u.
Me&STi 12-17-2004, 02:09 PM I appreciate all the inputs! ;)
yamez 12-17-2004, 03:36 PM what is boost creep?
jaypine 12-17-2004, 05:15 PM what is boost creep?
It is when your boost creeps above the programed amount. I believe it is caused by a wastegate that can not expel the excess air quick enough. Some people have their wastegate ported to improve wastegate flow thereby eliminating boost creep. I do not believe it is a problem with larger turbos. I could be wrong.
<--- I am a newbie.
Me&STi 12-17-2004, 09:21 PM I do not believe it is a problem with larger turbos. I could be wrong.
Yea.. that's another way of preventing boost creep. Some say that porting the wastegate of the turbo doesn't fix it, same goes to EM. It's only from what I've read around here. Some say that it can be fixed.
John Sever 12-18-2004, 12:50 AM nah it can happen with the larger turbos too...the only true cure is an external wastegate.
Mr. Bungle 12-18-2004, 01:25 AM yeah my internal wastegate on the Superzilla 20G is disconnected and safetywired shut...
Ive got a TiAL 38mm external with a dump pipe on there, she sure likes to gobble!

yea man youre upgrading an sti not a wrx... after youre done researching the correct car, put the 3gs toward utec, a tbe, 800cc injectors, and a turbo with balls. :alien: that will probably get you well into the 12s, or 11s if pick the right turbo. this is assuming - i know this is a leap here - that you can drive well.
Me&STi 12-18-2004, 03:59 AM nah it can happen with the larger turbos too
Really? That's a newsflash to me... thanks! ;)
