I see that there is a deflector for the FXT now, as the regular forester deflector would deflect air from the intake. Is this turbo model deflector really safe to use? I see it doesnt turn up as much, but is that enough?

I would think it would hurt air flow to the scoop.
A deflector's purpose is to deflect bugs (and air) above the wind shield.

I have this on my XT and all it does is protect the hood from rocks, etc. Not really a bug deflector per se. Another option would be Rockblocker, not sure if anyone makes a actual deflector as this would take away from the air flow to the IC which would be a bad thing. I did see where a member over at the forester forum had modifed the non turbo deflector by cutting the lip out of the center which in effect still helps with shooting bugs, etc over the windshield toward the sides but still lets air flow to the IC. Just an idea.

If you're looking to protect the front of the hood from chips and whatnot, I'd recommend the Rockblocker. It's practically invisible, won't impede airflow at all, and seems to be about bulletproof. You can order pieces separatly for whatever coverage you want (hood, bumper, etc.) or a full kit to cover the entire front end. It's a PITA to install properly, though. If you're interested in this option, do a search for Rockblocker on here and at subaruforester.com. It's been discussed many times and there's a ton of info on it.

I have this on my FXT. IT doesn't impede airflow across the hood, because there is no turned-up lip (like on the NA models). I believe that Subaru even makes one of these for the STI. I like the way it looks, especially on a black XT. imho. EZ install too!

Glad to hear there is a FXT-specific one now-just wished they had it when we drove to Montana in August! I wonder how it would look painted it to match the car. Can't decide if that would look cool or not...but I really don't like the black plastic on the lighter paint colors - too truck bug deflector like.
