What's going on everyone...I'm relatively new, having joined earlier this year, but haven't really surfed this forum due to the fact that I don't drive my Subaru all year round.

Anyways, I was wondering if you guys could help me on what could be a real stupid problem for you technical experts.

98 2.5 RS
Normal aspiration (w/ Injen intake), bone stock otherwise.
---------
When in 5th gear at 2500-3000 rpm cruising it runs fine, however, when I put the pedal to the floor, the engine revs to 3500 and acts as if it has a rev limiter there, causing the revs to drop to 3000 rpms (***!). In all the other gears, acceleration seems perfectly smooth. Any ideas?

(This seems like a pretty cool forum...went to a club day at the Portland International Raceway and got to meet Mr. Perrin and his autoclub, and when I saw their cars...I was hooked.)

The car revs fine past 3500 accelerating hard in all other gears? is yoru check engine light on?

The only problem I have had like that with one of my 98 RS's was the vehicle speed sensor, it went bad and would cut out at random. Watch your speedo next time it happens and see if acts weird.

Jay man...you're right on. My speedo busted earlier this year and pretty much lingers around 40 mph (HAA!). So I guess I should get a new console. Dang!

Thanks guys...it looks as if I'm definitely gonna post here some more!

you don't need a new "console." I think you just need to check the speedometer sensor that plugs into your transmission.
