View Full Version : need feedback from 2.5RS +5psi owners
I want to know if 5psi in a 2.5RS it a big improvement or not? is it worth it (realative)? i know there are many variables but i think most people are running a T3/T4. so just a rough idea of what kind of gains I would see. I have heard everything from "at 5psi you would hardly notice it" to "5psi would pull like crazy", my assumtions lead me to believe that the results would be somewhere in the middle.
I am looking for your expirences and feedback,
thanks,

EDIT: spelling.
yebokmj 07-05-2001, 11:57 PM I have the JC Sports kit running 6psi and I pulled a 14.4 at the drag strip on Weds. with no experiance or ice. Do you think that is a sign of the kit being worth it? I know I love having a turbo.

Ethan 07-06-2001, 01:36 AM I second yebokmj, only with his same kit I ran a 14.3 on my car ;)
Is it worth yet, I don't know...maybe if you like dusting of 2.5RS's and hanging with WRXs then sure. But that's not for everyone :D
SFsube 07-06-2001, 01:58 AM 5psi is pretty satisfying, 7psi is really yummy and 9psi and up is delightful. :)
Actually, a well tuned 5 is pretty quick. I have no 1/4 mile times but 5psi on a track will put you in position to stay with some "finer" machinery that the NA 2.5RS just can't handle.
cheers,
sf
Andrew 07-06-2001, 02:22 AM 5psi is a huge improvement. i had the chance to go against my friends mr2 who runs mid 14s and i beat him.
im running a t28 with an automatic.
5psi is nice but still way too slow for me. im going to be putting in some bigger injectors and a higherstall torque converter in the near future and hopefully pull out 10psi.
RallyNavvie 07-06-2001, 10:24 AM I'm running 5psi (because that's minimum with the wastegate) and I sure feel it. It works well in conjuntion with the EJ25's low-end torque and produces good acceleration all the way across the tach. I drove a DSM before and the acceleration in that is more violent, but has a lot more lag. The bigger, boxer engine in the Scooby keeps that lag away. I can almost beat my old Talon at 5psi and I think I'm capable of more, but more also needs bigger injectors and a TEC II.
Anyone have a guess as to how much power is being put out at 5psi?
HRE | giulio 07-06-2001, 10:33 AM wop, you mistyped "what kind of grains would i see". in our cars, the grain would be "rice".
I'm at 3psi right now and it really does make a big difference. an NA car with boost womps ass. But that's experience with just my car.
i think 5psi should be about 210/220hp.
I cant wait to be at 7psi :P {drool}

Jon Bogert 07-06-2001, 10:57 AM You will definitely notice it.
Some turbo cars give a smooth rush of power. Some wind up and boot you in the ass. Even at 5psi, a 2.5 turbo gives you a genuine "Oh my god" feeling in first and second, and sometimes even in third. In the higher gears, it's deceptive: "I was going 70 and now I'm going 90. Hmm that was quick."
I can only imagine that higher boost will carry that boot you in the ass feeling to even higher speeds, but you WILL be impressed at 5psi.
The WRX (stock) doesn't feel like it can do 0-60 under six seconds, but it can. A 2.5 turbo really isn't much, if at all, faster, but the seat of the pants feeling is much more impressive.
SubaFastR 07-06-2001, 11:46 AM Why not buy those pistons, rods, and engine management we've been talking about, and go 17 psi. That's a kick in the ass!

please shed the light.
paultg 07-06-2001, 01:32 PM I don't own a turbo car, but I have driven/rode in most of the turbo cars in NE. The cars I list here are:
'99 2.5RS w/Redline/rallispec kit = T3/04 with 7PSI and Tec-II tuned by Shiv
'99 2.5RS w/Minnam, rallispec kit = T3/04 with 7-9PSI and Tec-II tuned by Shiv
'00 2.5RS w/Minnam Stage One upgraded to Stage II, Tec-II
Ran a 13.5 sec 1/4 mile last week with dry ice on the intercooler.
These cars haul major ass. I drove the top car for a long time, and coming out of a toll booth this car scares me. NO JOKE. I shift just when it starts to get fun, it is so fast. 5th gear is a passing gear! I never drove the second car, but rode in it at Watkins Glenn, and it is very impressive. 135 MPH easy on the back stretch.
'97 Subrua OBS 2.2L w/Redline/rallispec kit = t3/04 at 5 PSI
This car has '98 RS injectors and a '98 Legacy GT computer. This is a nice turbocharged car. I like it. This car convinced me a 2.5L RS with 5-PSI is all I need. I want a comfortable street car that anyone in my family can drive, and I can drive fast. :) Now, I just need the money.

Gambit 07-07-2001, 03:00 AM at 5psi, did you guys have any problems with the stock tranny and clutch?
8Complex 07-07-2001, 03:10 AM At 5psi, correctly tuned, the car flies. I will be finishing tuning soon, hopefully, so I will be able to go get some times at the track safely. All I know is that low 14's sounds more then a given.
5-6psi, Ludespeed stage 2/3, stock trans, ACT clutch.
paultg 07-07-2001, 12:32 PM The stock tranny/clutch is not designed for more power, so I think you can have problems with any boost. You just have tobe real careful on how you shift, etc.. and not abuse the drivetrain.
