View Full Version : Am i on the right track?
ScoobyBoy 07-06-2001, 05:36 AM well within a year i will be getting an impreza. i can chose between a wrx or a 2.5 RS, BUT it has to be an auto. and there is absolutely no way i can get a manual. i was doing some thinking, what is the point of getting the wrx if im not going to have stick. the auto will basically hide the true power of the turbo. RIGHT??? i wont feel any of the power until the turbo lag leaves, and thats about midway in second gear. ive been reading other posts saying that the RS has a better "jet" feel because it doesnt have the lag, and the torque is rather high. is my thinking accurate, or should i stick with the wrx and the lovely turbo.
any input would be great. thank you fellow subie lovers.
:)
snipes 07-06-2001, 06:11 AM rs isn't gona feel more jetty b/c it doesn't have turbo lag.....its what a .3 more liters for the time the turbo spools
and uh the turbo should spool up by what 2.5k 3k something like that?
Can you not get a manual because of your parents? If so, you should tell them that in general (GENERAL people. Not everyone) people who drive manual transmissions are more attentive drivers. When you drive a manual, you have to actually think about what you're doing. There is less temptation to talk on the phone or fumble with CDs etc.
ChosenWon 07-06-2001, 11:24 AM On top of that, thre is a major AWD difference. The auto does a 80/20 split to the front wheels and as you lose grip it shifts more power to the rear. where as the manual is a true 50/50 split.
iBlueVirus 07-06-2001, 12:30 PM if it's your parents... barrow a stick from your friend or something. take your parents out, prove to them you could drive one... plus it's going to be cheaper!! just tell them they could save a thousand dollars! :D:D you WILL regret it if you get an auto. trust me, I KNOW, CUZ I HAVE ONE!! :(:(
jetfire67 07-06-2001, 12:38 PM manual is the ONLY way to go for these cars, esp. the WRX.
mad-dog999 07-06-2001, 12:58 PM Actually, the split in the auto is 45/55 front/rear, and it comes with the VTD center differental (Same as the HO6 Outback), as opposed to the 50/50 LSV differental in the manual. :) They both change the split based on wheelspin, just in a different way.
ScoobyBoy 07-07-2001, 11:39 PM yes, my parents are the reason why cant get the manual. i have tried the whole cheaper, and the fact that i will be for focused, but they still dont want me to get the stick. BUT i cant complain. im lucky as it is to have my parents buy me a car sooner or later.
do you guys think it is wise for me not to get the WRX if im not getting stick? because i feel like i wont be getting the "full package" if i get the wrx in auto. the RS at least is cheaper, and the torque is reasonable. is it true that the RS gets 95 horses at the wheel??? i read it on another post, and i thought it was somewhat small.
but ah well....
theGrideimpreza4u 07-08-2001, 12:35 AM auto cars wit turbo are just as good sometimes i think all i have to say is 1987 buick grand national?:)
Siper2 07-08-2001, 12:52 AM I don't want to pry, really, but why won't they let you get a stick?
I guess I don't understand the reasoning.
My parents taught me to drive manual after I asked. I'm glad I did! Every car I've bought since has been a stick.
My girlfriend's parents insisted that she learn stick. She's harsher than I am... the other day she said, flat out, "There's no excuse not to know how to drive manual!"
I was thinkin,' "Go, hunny!" :D
Heh. Sorry, just a little story tellin' at this late hour. Obviously I won't try to change your parents' opinion so in your case I'd say go for the RS. Better still the wagon. Wagons rule.
