Where was this? Cause those are definatly not WRX wheels for the US...and it couldnt have happened in Japan, unless they have english newspapers over there. ? ? ?

It's an unfortunate event.

I read the article..........so any car that is capable of 0-60 in less than 6 seconds shouldn't be allowed on the streets, huh.

So one idiot in a "high powered WRX" eats it and now all WRXs should be banned?

What an dork. Whoever wrote this article has his head deep in his A$$.

Lygon St Carlton is a road in the center of Melbourne Australia

P.s. the police are saying that 'cause due to pressure from the local car manufacturers to buy australian, they are not allowed to have them! What about BMW, Merc, HSV commodores etc that all perform just as well. The problem is that the car is relatively cheap so you end up with young guys in them that don't drive nearly as well yet as they think they can

Since they mention a Holden, it must be Australia. Pity, that looked like a pretty sweet car. Nice color. Oh yeah, and too bad those people died too.

Um yeah. The police drive them too. What's the difference between somebody taking a WRX and piling it into a pole and some guy in a Ferrari piling it into a rail at 170? Does anybody even think about banning Ferraris?

Sensational media. With all the publicity about the new WRX in America, someone latched on to the "WRX" name and couldn't resist finger pointing.....

I really don't understand some people's logic sometimes. How can you ban a car because of someone's bad driving? It's the same thing as guns, guns don't kill people...people kill people. (Not that I am a gun nut...but it is an obvious point. The WRX did not wreck itself.) And if they think that a cars ability to go fast is the cause then why don't we all just drive golf carts around? There are even faster cars out there than the WRX, that don't even handle as well. It's stupid. Not to mention that the residents there said it is just a bad intersection. Why get on Subaru for a fast car instead of stupid road designers? Sounds like they are scapegoating the machinery instead of holding accountable the real cause.....people.

Well said Vern. SUV's need to go. I wonder if that car had been a porsche or lamborghini if they would have suggested that those cars be outlawed. A lot of cars can go fast, 60mph is fast in the city and any car can do that. No mention of driver fault at all or whether the driver was under alcohol influence or anything. Poor media

Lygon St limbo, how low can you go-go. These are the words from an Australian song.

Anyway, yes, that's an Aussie WRX (MY99?).

So is that a hand, or a glove in the left hand front door position?

Thanks FuJi K for enlarging the article for me. And that must suck for the driver and all those lives were lost. Oh, this sorta reminds me of the Ferrari that crashed by the rails (somebody posted about 2 weeks ago), now that was nasty.

right.. there is a big difference between a wrx going down the street at 100mph and a suv going down the street at 100mph... give me a break. With this article, we should ban all cars.

Did those guys die?, if they didn't I guess the impreza is a pretty safe car, that damage looks pretty bad.

Hyudra,

A pedestrian and the passanger died. And the driver and one other person is in critical condition. Cant believe the driver survived that crash!!!

Ndmorespeed,
It's a copy of Commadorre Gold over here, (Hackettgold) and no it's not a Subaru of Aussie standard colour.

This is another interesting picture/article from aussie, taken after some criminals stole 3 cars and ended up crashing into themselves at high speed, then getting themselves into a shootout with the police.

Ok, so they say it might have been the pedestrian...

It might have been an intersection...

There are much faster cars on the road...

But they feel that a nomal WRX is "not designed for road use", these are "road rockets", "superpowerfull cars", "should be banned"...

???????????

Someone was mentioning the car's safety.... My feelings on the topic: The only reason the passenger was killed was because they were ejected from the car, which I would assume means no seatbelt was worn. The other two, who were wearing seatbelts more than likely, survived. I would say Suabru's are safe..especially after hearing that two people survived that type of wreck.

...thats why "power poles" in the US are wood or designed to break off. I noticed last week in Japan the poles are concrete - made me cringe.

Actually, it says that both the passengers who lived were in critical condition, fighting for thier lives. What amazes me is how fast they had to have been going. If you read closely, they state that the one passanger was thrown 35 meters from the car. or 105 feet. They must have been flying. 105 feet is a very long way to be thrown from a car. I am not at all surprised the guy didnt live through that one. Its not that high powered cars should be banned. its that people should be taught how to drive them first. I mean, I have driven tons of cars more powerful and faster than a WRX, but I am smart enough to know how to control them. AWD is great, but it isnt going to save your life when you are doing 120 on a city street.

The WRX is a wonderfull car.
Fast, decent handling and cheap to purchase.

The problem isnt the car, so much as the people who purchase these machines (who tend to be young and inexperianced). The Assie police force probably see more than a normal percentage of WRX's in serious accidents, as a result. I can certainly understand how with such demographics, there must be a great deal of pressure to either 'outlaw' these cars or simply increase the insuranse rates to the point where it is no longer practicle to operate a WRX on the road.

Sure Porcshe, Audi, and BMW (for instance) all produce cars of similar performance capabilities, however you don't see issues with those cars. Subaru will probably be pushed into either voluntarly ending production, increasing the base price, or insuranse companies will do it for them. (Both here and in Australia).

I think Subaru USA went through a great deal of soul searching before introducing the WRX to America. Lets all try to be responsible citizens and not take unnessary risks with our Subarus. Hopefully if Subaru drivers as a group act responsibly, then our insuranse rates wont sky rocket. On the other hand don't be surprised two years down the road to find your insuranse premiums doubling if you drive a WRX.
