I wash my car more than I goto church... that should give you folks an idea of how often I wash my car. Along with my discovery of a hole in my carpet, there are these little holes that have seem to have found themselves in my paint.... what makes it even more weird is that they are chips on my rear roof... and other odd places a rock could finds itself. Secondly, they have already started to rust or tried... I hope this too along with my carpet problem is covered under my warrintey... (my car is only 10 months old, a MY01 Silver Rs) any advice would help. thanks!

Do you park in a concrete parking garage by any chance?

I know a guy who parked in a garage for a while and the concrete was secreting lime* and dripping it onto his roof. After a very short period the paint was etched and his roof was rusting out. The owners of the parking garage bought him a new car. You might want to see if there are any funny deposits on the ceiling.

*lime3 (lm)
n.

See calcium oxide.
Any of various mineral and industrial forms of calcium oxide differing chiefly in water content and percentage of constituents such as silica, alumina, and iron. Also called quicklime.

horatio: Astute observation. I guess you're damned if you do and damned if you don't: Park inside the garage and get limed. Park on the roof and risk damage from hail, weather, etc.

Maybe a car cover would be in order here?

The warranty does have some sort of rust protection, but I think the panel has to rust all the way through. It's in the warranty booklet you should have recieved with the car, big section on rust, easy to find.

It is covered, but I know there are differnt lengths for all the different warranty's on the car...

I read the paint warranty not too long ago. I believe it said that the metal has to rust from th inside out, therby proving that it is a manufacturer defect. (by the way if you use muriatic acid(it's cheap and can be bought at most hardware/ and masonry stores) and use it liberally it will rapidly rust any area's it's applied to. It will do in a few days waht it takes years to do to metal. It is a high concentrated salt solution used for cleaning brick walls. (and even on masonry we diluted it of one part acid to about 5 parts water. but to get the job done faster, i used 50/50. :D Use gloves and wash up afterward. It dos not do anything directly to you if you get it on you, (I practically showered in the crap when I worked with it) It will rust metal in a matter of hours. But it is of course non-reversable.

You realize if they take fault for this weird stuff, they will have to admit to re-painting your whole car. Yeah, their gonna rush to do that. They will avoid it at all costs, despite who's fault it is.

I have found that I feel better if I don't look to close when I wash the car, it gets too depressing. I instead concentrate on the feeling of launch.

edit: After I re-read what you wrote, I remebered that a local guy (my main man the_Gille), had a very similar problem. They were little rust colored spots. It turned out that we could rub them off if we used enough elbow crease. I had a minor bout with the same thing and the goo-begone made it easy to get rid of. turned out they were never even below the paint. You might try that.

You might try a really thorough wash and wax. Or a clay bar thing.

The rust warranty only applies to rust-through. I wouldn't pursue that. I'd see if you can't get a faulty paint claim under the bumper-to-bumper, or the fit-and-finish. Usually manufacturers will cover wear items for 12/12k. I know that the brakes on my Jeep were covered. Not sure about clutches, but I would think that they'd fix a paint problem.

I hope this too along with my carpet problem is covered under my warrintey .

Ahh yes, another phoenetic speller.

My paint has chips too, Bro. The car has good wax on it, but lives outside, under a car cover at least. I've had the car since February, and in this short period of ownership (7000 miles about to turn over today), I've realized that the car is simply going to get a paint job in a few years. There really isn't any way to avoid paint chips.
