I need to find a 2.5 phase I engine. I am in Salt Lake. This is going in an old Forester so cheap is good.

Also, does anyone know about the places that imported engines for Japan? Are these any good? The prices look good, but I don't know.

James:

Head gaskets I assume? The engine is now shot, or can it be repaired?

You might contact CCR in Colorado (www.ccrengines.com), they sell Subie engines with a warranty and I have heard many good things about them. Probably more expensive than what you're looking for, but if you're keeping the car for a while it might be a good way to go.

Another option is a '95 2.2l engine, on the USMB (Ultimate Subaru Message Board) there's a recent thread with much info on exchanging one of those for the Phase 1 2.5l in an Outback. You'd be giving up some HP but gaining reliability and saving money.

Give Metric Motors a call and talk to Seth. They are located in Centerville. I haven't really seen a problem with these motors that they sell. Just make sure that all the seal are there and installed properly. CCR is more expensive, but they have a 3 year warranty on their motors. A buddy of mine bought one for is brat from CCR and has not had a problem yet. And that was 5 years ago.

Yep Head gaskets! :furious: The dealer said it was gone but they didn't open anything up. Just added some coolent and started it up.

I called CCR and it is a bit expensive, but sounds like a good motor and very complete. It should not be hard to swap.

I will Check out Metric.
