View Full Version : Getting $1300 - Extended warranty or rims?

I finally am getting my money back from my cancelled extended Honda Care warranty (I bought my 04 used from a horrible Honda dealer, Muller Honda). $1300 should finally be in my hands in three days. Should I roll the money over into a Subaru extended warranty or should I blow it all on rims? I prefer the rims but I know I'll keep this car forever and I might want the warranty when stuff starts to break.

What do you guys think?

I think you should go for Tire package. Not to sure if you have enough for nice rims but save a lil more, normally 200-400 for just A rim. Well what color do you have.. oh ok you have black. Get some nice BBS gold rims... oohhh that'd look bad arse.

If you plan on doing any modifications, get the wheels. Subaru likes to deny warranty claims on modified vehicles.

I agree, if you are posting and reading these forums it is only a matter of timne before you void your warranty. get some rims and appropriate seasonal tire

Yup, get rims. They'll just deny your warranty anyways...

rims, even if they don't deny your warranty, unless you screw something major up, it's not worth the $$$ IMO

I say screw the rims and go with 1source auto warranty. I paid about 1500 for my wifes VW passat and 1source paid at least 4-5k over the life of the warranty(in my case, 100k miles). I couldn't have been happier. I'll be getting another one for my WRX as soon as my 36k is up.

I had a 01 VW GTI (boo...) and had the $1200 warranty. For a VW POS it made tons of sense, I had at least 2500 in repairs done for free. Plus now that this car is gone, Im getting prorated my unused portion of it...

However. Subarus are GOOD cars. Unless the subie community knows of major issues that crop up and cost a bunch like VW's does (check out www.vwvortex.com if you want a taste of what im talking about,) Id say go for the rims too.

On that note, does anyone KNOW of any major issues to watch for? Im gonna do a search anyway but free posts are fun.

I'm gonna vote extended warranty only because im glad I have one. I had my power steering pump fail on me and I called up my 'local dealer' (read 30 or 40 minute drive) and they got me in and fixed up in the same day....FOR FREE!!!! I saw the invoice, and I was really quite glad I didnt have to pay for a $400 power steering pump.
