i HAVE HEARD THAT HONDA/ACURA OVER EXAGGERATE HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER THEIR CARS REALLY HAVE XAMPLES R THE GSR AND CIVIC SI. I WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS DYNO TESTED A STOCK 99 RS TO SEE HOW ACCURATE THE HORSEPOWER IS(LISTED AT 165 HP) OR IF ANYONE KNOWS OFF HAND

Up here in the NW when we had our Dyno day, the dyno calibrated HP at the flywheel. Closest thing we had to stock was a RS with an exhaust. The dyno read I think 170HP on that, so I would say they are pretty close.

turbo the magazine dynoed the wrx and they came out with 168.8 hp and 165.5 lbs/ft at peak out put. so this comes to about 25% loss in power due to awd, tranny, etc. seems to be a little high in percent loss but it is awd.

Most all magazine Dyno tests are done at the wheels, which will show lower HP/TQ humbers than you get at the flywheel (Manufacturers use flywheel HP). Some is "lost" in the drivetrain, but more often the disparity is due to gearing. Dyno a car at the wheels in first gear and you'll get much higher numbers than in third.
You use the gear that is closest to 1:1 as possible when you dyno at the wheels, but you almost never find a perfect ratio, so the numbers will be skewed. The point of a dyno test is generally to measure the effects of mods, so it's not the raw numbers that are important, but the percentage of difference between baseline and modified.

Also, make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Honda rates the 2000 Civic Si at 160 horsepower, but that's at the engine. With driveline loss, an Si will make about 135 at the wheels when on a chassis dyno. We have an Si, and when you guesstimate driveline loss, our chassis dyno numbers jibe with Honda's.
It's not exact, but there are also some formulas that let you figure horsepower from quarter-miler performance. Last time I did the calculations, I came pretty close.

I have the engine dyno spreadsheet for the WRX from FHI and believe the 227BHP to be accurate.
