View Full Version : What the heck is this thing behind the wheels?
Andrew 07-07-2001, 02:46 AM I was playing around and took off the (having a brain fart and cant remember what this piece is called) black piece thats protecting the fender around the wheel. Well when I did this I found this weird tube thing, what the hell is it and what does it do?
Oh yeah this is on the passanger's side.
8Complex 07-07-2001, 02:54 AM It's probably a water drain from the trunk lid surround.
Andrew 07-07-2001, 02:56 AM why would they put a water drain for the trunk in the front?
p.s. did i mention this was the front passanger wheel?
probably a drain tube from the front windshield then?
MPREZYA 07-07-2001, 03:00 AM Probably for the sun roof not the trunk  8.
Andrew 07-07-2001, 03:00 AM guess i could run water along the car and find out
Scooby South 07-07-2001, 03:25 AM sorry...its the AC drain hose....the condensor is under the dash...so when its hot outside...and you turn the AC on..The condensation has to go somewhere...:D
codemunky 07-07-2001, 05:12 AM Woah, someone cut your brake line! j/k:p
remarcable 07-07-2001, 06:30 AM Tracking device control module airspeed sensor.
You are being watched.
8Complex 07-07-2001, 07:23 AM Doh! Nope, you neglected the 'front' part. :) All other guesses above are applicable as I don't know exactly what that is.
markus 07-07-2001, 09:49 AM My vote goes for the A/C condensor drain line.
alexs001 07-07-2001, 11:45 AM Sunroof drains are on the left and right and they run into the trunk and out each side along with a overflow drain for the fuel door.
HYDCSX400 07-07-2001, 01:15 PM drain line from the headlight overflow valve:D

Legacy STi L 07-07-2001, 04:09 PM I dont know but if I were you I would just rip the dam thing out. It probably doesnt have a function. You know car makers put things like that all over the car. I got a big silver looking thing that poked out the rear of my car. Nothin ever came out of it so I ripped it off, now my car seems alot louder and faster. ;)

my real vote is to the A/C condesor drain
ajday 07-07-2001, 10:32 PM It's probably the AC drain. I never had AC before and was a little freaked out to see a puddle of liquid under my car in E. Wash. (it was hot - like a year ago). The car was still pretty new to me at that time.
BTW are air conditioners supposed to make weird noises. When my AC is on it can make whooshing noises (under the car?) or other sounds. A
theGrideimpreza4u 07-07-2001, 11:03 PM scooby south is correct it is in fact the a/c drain hose!
Dude you should order the new one from STI, hey maybe there could be a group buy. I heard:rolleyes: the STI one gives your AC more horsepower, makes the back window frost up!!!!!! Yup its true....(hehehe)
Robmat 07-08-2001, 12:23 AM I was told by a Subie tech that it is the sunroof drain tube. One in each front wheel well.

ANZAC_1915 07-08-2001, 11:58 AM AC condensate drain is black and goes through firewall and then down; that is the sunroof drain, there should be more than one (e.g. other fender).
