I just thought I'd post a couple pics of my recent dash swap. It was pretty tough, and probably took more time than the engine swap itself- the firewall has to be modified a whole lot in order to fit the new dash, HVAC stuff, steering column, etc.. but everything on the car is from a WRX.

Enjoy, although I've still got a good bit of work ahead of me until the car is truly finished... :disco:

Looks slick!

Congrats on a job well done. I've never been much for interior stuff, but it's nice to see someone putting the time and effort into really updating their car like that.

i got the whole car for parts, and wanted to keep all the components compatible

and, its about an 11 lb. weight savings over the old dash

Yeah that's amazing, i stopped at the cluster personally. I thought about the dash, but getting the heater controls to work and other stuff like that, just wasn't worth the effort to me.

Good Job!

Oh and btw - i don't see the dash fitment being a problem, but rather the door panels. Please post pics when you get the doors panels in.

Actually the more i think about this, did you use the wrx cross bar? the main support bar i mean? and secondly did you just shorten the heater/vent control rods?

Yeah, I used the WRX bar, and i used all the WRX HVAC stuff, it all worked fine together, just had to muscle everything in to get it mounted.

And as far as door cards, I'm going to have to wait until I can find some STi V6 RA coupe door cards (it might be awhile) because my old ones don't even come close, and I need some w/ roll-up windows. I'm thinking it might take a few years to track some of those down

Those door cards are going to be pretty hard to come by, you're right. You might want to check with some of the rally teams domestically and overseas, since they usually carry parts like that.

Check with Gruppe-S, too.

Did the use of the WRX dash make it easier to do the wiring for the engine swap?

OvenMitts

oh hell yeah, wiring was almost a breeze since everything was already compatible

the only problem is i'm not using half the wires in my car (i'm using the WRX harness)

I need to do this bad. My 94l dash is all sorts of F'd up. Hope you don't mind me asking but what kinda $ did this mod cost and what was the exact parts required? Its Real tempting...paint or dash swap and mabye a cage. Hmmm

I would love to put a wrx dash into my L, I have a 2.5RS dash now, but yeah it would be better to keep it all wrx along with the motor swap.

Helluva job, man, looks great. Will the gap remain on the passenger side between the dash and body?

EDIT: For the door cards, look to Adrian at FLAT4motorsports.com - he's really hooked me up over the last couple of months. Also, kingofimports.com, jdmpartstx.com, japanparts.com and Gruppe-S (already stated).

Great job OvenMitts! You are my new hero.

Did you cut your hood and put in an RS scoop? It looks clean with no vents.

You wanna trade cars?

The stock door panels fit fine. Aerosim in SoCal is starting to do the RS > WRX drivetrain + dash swaps. Here is a link with some pictures of the car that Aerosim finished recently.

I'd need to see a closeup with the door closed.

Did you use the WRX airbag sensors and airbag computer? what about ABS? Ditch them both???

I wonder about compatibility between interior dimensions of the US WRX wagon and 95 Imp wagon...

You did an awsome job man! i have a WRX Swap in my 98 Outback Sport. The guy i bought it from was more of an "as long as it works, its fine" kinda guy. He did a great job with the swap but was essentially making it a rally car and if somethin he didnt need didnt work, or didnt fit perfect it didnt bother him. Although being a student i would like it to fit better, he used the 98 HVAC combined with the WRX controls which is pretty jenky and that is the part i am having the most trouble with, with the whole conversion. How long did that take you to fit the HVAC in and im sure it was worth it but there must be a lot of customization eh? But BRAVO and making it look like it is meant to be there!

Newer door cards will fit, but not the old style ones. That's why he couldn't use them.

DoctorNick

Garface,
its late, mabye im not understanding you. Are you saying he needs usdm my 02+ door cards or something like RS cards?

garface
01-04-2005, 09:48 AM
I mean GC/GM newer doorcards like the pre-01 RS. I really don't know if the newer GD cards would fit the old chassis, but I wouldn't think so. You never know with these cars though.

garface

If you find Simon Lines' pics, you'll see he has the older GC doorcards and they push into the dash when closed. So you could technically use those, but they're going to crush the dash.

OvenMitts
01-04-2005, 12:28 PM
I've seen Simon's, but the door cards I need are the newer style GC8's, which don't stick out into the dash. The problem is, i need some with roll-up windows for a coupe. WRXs only came in 4-door.

DoctorNick
01-04-2005, 02:13 PM
So would a card off a 2 door brighton be whats needed?
I'd lone you my door cars off my 94 with roll up windows but its a 4 door.

garface
01-04-2005, 02:22 PM
Probably not, depending on the year. Does it have the new shape door cards?

garface
01-04-2005, 02:31 PM
This is what happens with old door cards. So if you're come out like that then they'll push it in. BUT, your dash is pushed back further than this one, so it might just barely make it. It will fit, but you probably don't want to do it. A newer GC/GM card will be fine.

I was going to do this on my legacy. Everything was looking good until i ran into the door panel issue. I was going to use the wrx ones, but they were too short for my legacy's doors.
It really hurt to see the wrx dash go....
Looks good though.
