View Full Version : Utec on JDM swaps chrisj 12-31-2004, 10:15 PM Has anyone used a programable ECU link on a JDM swap? manchild83 01-01-2005, 12:26 AM Talk to George user name sonicyellowrx he did a JDM sti engine swap and is running a utec on it. ImprezaRSfan! 01-01-2005, 03:44 AM i have a utec i purchased in the summer and still have yet to put it on yet, reason being theres no twinscroll base map and i dont want to put it on untill i can get it tuned. chrisj 01-01-2005, 09:42 AM Well I'm going to do a swap in within the next 6 months so I'm trying to figure out my game plan. The stock STI is great, but with the upgraded turbos and such that I plan on doing I'm going to want the most out of the engine. Are there any other programable ECUs that can be used? chrisj 01-01-2005, 12:25 PM SO let me ask this... IF I have every intent to build up the base STI engine then should I look at a Ver.8 or somthing? I'm just not all THAT sold on twinscroll and the prices that they get for them are nuts. Now if there is a tuneability factor involved then I'll look at a newer setup. dwx 01-01-2005, 12:34 PM You can use the UTEC with a JDM ECU, I used one for a little while before I had the ECU reflashed. You need a JDM ECU specific version or else it'll throw 4 injector codes. They don't affect anything performance wise but the JDM version will get rid of the codes. To put it simply, whatever methods are available for the US WRX are available for the JDM ECU. If you want to use AVCS though, you need to use something that piggybacks off the JDM ECU or supports AVCS like the Hydra or Motec. Need4Boost 01-01-2005, 12:44 PM The AUS UTec will work with JDM ECU. ECUTek reflashes work as well. MoTec, GEMS, and Hydra works and controls AVCS. MoTec has anitlag built in as well. chrisj 01-01-2005, 12:57 PM Yeah thats the type of stuff I am looking for. A buddy has a DSM link on his eclipse and I love it. He can go down the road with a laptop and tune as he goes. It has the antilag and all that good stuff too. So sounds like Motec might be the better solution... but yes, I did want to use the AVCS and possibly even the DCCD if the tranny I get happnes to have it. dwx 01-01-2005, 01:03 PM I _think_ the PnP version of the Link finally supports AVCS but I'm not sure. The Motec is much more expensive. garface 01-03-2005, 02:17 PM I think rev6b won't give you a CEL, but I'm not sure. It definately will work though. SonicYelloWRX 01-03-2005, 03:00 PM Revision 6 and up will works as they do have the wiring for AVCS, but they will still throw injector codes. I have the JDM/AUS utec and have never had any codes.
