ok my 02 wrx has 60k miles on it i bought it from a friend with 55k miles on it. before i bought i took it to get ckecked out by a mechanic. Everything checked out with the exception of him saying i would need a new clutch soon. Anyway i live at 7000 ft and i took the car to down to Phoenix AZ (like 3000 ft i think) and the clutch started to slip really bad and when i got up to like 60 -75 mph my car would shake violently. so I towed it back up ordered all my parts and took it to the dealership and got my clutch and flywheel replaced. i got it back like 3 days ago and it drives fine up here but this morning when i decided to go to phoenix i got about half way and the same thing happened again. it feels like my clutch is slipping and betwwen 70-80 mph my car shakes like carzy wheather it's in gear or not! Theres no way in hell i could have burned up a clutch in 3 days ( dont ride my clutch at all it or race). What the heck is goin on here, could it be something else, somebody please help!!

First of all if the mech said the clutch was bad, then going up and down mountains would have finished it off.
Take it back to the dealership tell them the problem, something is def. out of wack.
Like the clutch installed improperly, or the tranny mounts loose.

But looking at your thread again, it sounds like the car drove good both times until it got nice and warm, so perhaps the dif is fried? Just tossing out thoughts.

The two problems may or may not be related.
The shaking has nothing to do with the clutch. If it happens regardless of whether or not it's in gear it probably isn't a drivetrain problem since those usually change depending on load. You may have a bent wheel or bad tire.
Are you sure the clutch is slipping (RPM's rise but speed doesn't)? If you're seeing this and the clutch is brand new, you could have a bad diff.

yes my rpm's rise but my speed doesn't and theres a clunking sound when i am slowing down every now and then too.

Get your transmission mount checked out. Mine shakes when engagin the clutch and clicks when slowing down. I need to get it fixed soon...

The lower altitude may also add enough air to increase your HP to the point of clutch slipping.

you may also want to check the weights on the driveline... does the vibration occur at certain speeds?

yes my car vibrates form like 60-75 mph intensly, and is not so bad 80+ or 55-

Do you think that the change in elevation could have caused an air bubble in the hydrolic line and it just needs to be bled again?

Air in the hydraulic system won't make the clutch slip, it will prevent it from disengaging fully (the opposite problem).

Thats what i would think also but the clutch is only three days old!!

so the dealership said it looks like the pressure plate failed. so i should be getting my car back in the next few days... we'll see if it happens again because if it does im tempted to sell my wrx and put down payment on a new legacy. i'll let y'all know.
