Hey all,

About 10 months and 18,000 miles ago I had the coolant recall/service campaign performed on my 01 RS. It had been sucking air in to the cooling system causing the reservoir to overflow. Since then everything has been fine until recently when the same problem started occurring again. Has anyone else experienced this? I will call my dealer tomorrow but it seems to me that this time they will need to do the head gasket since the conditioner isn't solving the problem. Am I right? Anyone know first hand? TIA

The headgasket is shot and the conditioner was just a bandaide. It worked for awhile.

The conditioner is to prevent the problem from occuring. Sounds like it was done too late for yours. If failure has occurred, then they need to replace the headgasket, and they will again add the conditioner. Since you'll have the conditioner in from the new headgasket's first use, you shouldn't have any more trouble(hopefully).

Yes. Our 1999 Forester had the coolant additive put in 10 months (6000 miles) ago. It started leaking again in Dec and the dealer replaced the head gaskets under warranty. After 2 weeks, no problems yet.

tcmo,

Thanks for the reply. I expect to have the same experience at my dealer that you had at yours. Good luck with your new gaskets.
