So, I just left to get something & noticed that when I shifted into 2nd, there was a clicking noise that followed with the speed of the motor. Every other gear was fine, only 2nd.
I had been driving the car all day without any noises, came home parked, & left again shortly after only to hear this sound.

I noticed that it does make the sound in neutral while parked, but stops when the clutch is pushed in. While moving, it makes the loud clicking noise only in 2nd gear. I have no trouble shifting, but when I looked under the hood & under the car it definitely sounds like it's coming from the tranny.

Any suggestions as to what this might be??? Thanks.

hey it sounds like we are in the same boat. i got the same problem in 3rd gear. i was told that it was probably a chipped or broken tooth on that gear. i was even told to see if it still makes the sound in nuetral. so if the info i got was correct then you got a broken gear also.

my car responds the same way. read my post under 3rd gear making tapping sound . even the same circumstances. i am taking it to a subaru mechanic tomorrow. if i hear anything more i'll post it. let me know if you hear anything different

Well, the shop just called about mine. They think it's probably a broken tooth in 2nd so they will have to at least rebuild 2nd gear. So, I guess I'll wait to see once they crack the tranny open. Hopefully it will just be 2nd that needs to be rebuilt & not the whole thing. He said I'm looking at at least $700 labor. YIKES!!
