alright, i have a 2001 rs, and i want to swap my engine with the japnese 2.0 sti motor. I didn't even know there was a 2L sti motor, but someone told me about it the other day. he said you can run it at up to 50lbs boost, as opposed the 2.5L which can only run up to, i think, around 30. Mind you, this is what i was told by this guy. He mentioned there is a place in L.A. that sells it with the sti tranny for only $2800, used from japan of course. If anybody knows what place he might be talking about, please let me know. I'm still learning a lot about the whole engine swap thing, and i'm trying to figure out what the best parts are to throw in with it, and if I'm just opening up a huge can of worms. Oh, one more thing, what ecu would i use with that engine? I got a lot of questions, but thats it for now. Peace....ruster.

you need to first search about doing the engine swaps, yes it can be done but there is quite a bit of work involved...in your case probably a can of worms...

50lbs of boost,

diesel trucks run 30lbs

You lucky if you 2.5L n/a motor can handle 10psi nevermind 30!!

search, alot.

The longer you hang out here, the more you'll learn that the info the guy gave you was a little off.

Swaps are possible, big boost is possible and CA is a state that has more than a couple shops to do it right. Start researching what is possible and fits into your plans. 50psi is not a realistic number for anything short of full-race, rebuild-per-pass monster motors. $2800 will get your foot in the door, but not a complete swap(by a reputable shop).

yeah, i wasn't plannin on runnin 50 lbs, i was merely just stating what the guy told me. I'm not plannin on flying my car to work, 50 lbs would probably require some 747 wings.

You may be able to pick up a JDM longblock w/out the turbo/intercooler/ECU around that price. I paid 4k about a year ago for my motor(JDM EJ207). Check out Gruppe-S and Kingpin for some motors. As far as having the tranny with it, you will be extremely lucky to get a JDM tranny alone for near that price

yo, thanks. i found it hard to beleive that about the tranny too. good lookin out.

Man if I had a someone who had a crate business man I would be set. I can get 2001 EJ207s all day long for less than 2k. That includes the Turbo, Harness, Intercooler, and ECU. I am very thankful for this place because it shows me what I have to look forward to when I get back to the states. I think I will just ship a few of my own motors back!!!!

ruster,
you need to realize the tongue in cheek smart arse responses you have gotten are based on the fact that you didn't bother to search, read the faqs, and read the first few pages of recent threads in this forum. Confessing you didn't even know an EJ207 STi block exists got you a whole heap of shizzat. As my old coach said, god gave you two ears and one mouth. Listen twice as much as you talk, and use your search buttom. Once you get the rep of a newb that doesn't search it is hard to shake. Do a search for structure828 and you'll see. enjoy... :p :disco:  :alien: :D   ;)

Hey ruster............I can't help you out with the 2.0 Sti swap but I can tell you about the 2.2 Legacy Turbo engine. It's awesome.......I just put did a swap on my Subaru Impreza. To a 1.8 to 2.2 Turbo. It wasnt that difficult to install either. But just incase you would deside to do it. The wiring harness doesnt fit on the impreza. My finance and I found that out the hard way. We had the whole dash of my car out and reliezed only some of the wires fit. But I mean....if you deside to not go with the 2.0 Sti motor (which would be sweet though) , go with the legacy turbo....it awesome, the only thing you'll need to make it work even better is an afc or to update your computer. Just willing to help out if ya need it!! You can email me at boostedimpreza@yahoo.com!

I Just Swap A Sti Ver 7 Motor In My 2000 Rs. My Car Was Down For About 3 1/2 Months Before It Was Done And You Have A Shop Do It Plan On Spending About $4000 To $5000 Dollars More To Swap The Motor After You Buy The
Motor.

i'm gonna keep learnin, i'll do the swap myself when it comes time. i know it can be a pain in the ass, but if someone else can do it, i can. Theres no way i'm gonna pay $4000 dollars to have someone install it, i just couldn't afford it.thanks for all the replies though, you guys have been super helpful.

well I did my 02 USDM wrx swap.. its really a headache.. there are alot other parts involve.. and Its a bitch to do the wiring harness.. well to let you know its harder to find JDM parts than USDM.. it might be better of with just WRX engine.. you can probably find a nice for about $2300 or less.. just look into the forum.. I got mine for $1300 and run pefectly but I just got the long block.. and other things you have to supply.. you might need at least.. 3000 cash backing you up.. for the parts and stuff.. I can tell you all the things necessary.. its not easy.. and its not gonna look pretty.. first of all.. if you not getting the tranny don't even bother putting too much power on the motor.. well let me know.. when you made a decision.. but I recommand.. you go with USDM.. since its very easy to find parts.. and well if you have any question just ring the bell.

Bull****.

It's not that hard to do the mechanical work of doing a swap. As for it looking pretty, well that comes down to how much time you want to put into that but from all the swaps I've done I can proudly say that they look very very nice and tidy.

As for the transmission. I'm running my stock 2.5RS transmission and it has 128345 miles on it, and these are all Zephyr miles as my friends like to say. This car has been autocrossed, rallycrossed, iceraced, hillclimbed and has a good 5000 or so track miles on it the majority of which are Group 4.

Ruster, go ahead and do the swap, you will not regret it at all. As I tell anyone else who is interested in doing a swap, when you buy the engine, make sure it comes with the complete harness of the car it came out of. I also would suggest going with the USDM WRX as parts are as close as your local subaru dealer and there are guys out there like me who have done tons of swaps that can answer questions or do swaps for the right amount of money.

I regret every miniute of this swap...if you dont have excess money, dont do the swap..and if possible pay a shop to do it....im broke with a broken car that is worth nothing now that i have mangled the harness to useless junk...it never seemed this hard when everyone else did it...but then again that was everyone else...

If you are not 100% confident on reading wiring schematics and working out the wiring, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS SWAP ON YOUR OWN. I got to watch a friend have his car down for 15+ months while he saved money to pay a shop to finish the work...

maybe its just me but personally i dont think its that hard to read the wiring diagrams at all. They tell you exactly what you need to know, what each wire is, where it goes, its color, and harness location. I understand its tedious work but not difficult. I laid out a full wiring conversion on paper making notes on what pins i need to put where and it took me 2 hours. Now all i would need to do is learn how to remove one pin, and from there it is just a process of labeling and swapping.

Yep its really easy to do the wiring... :)

Cutting and splicing is a lot easier than pulling pins and quicker since you don't have to unwrap the whole harness. Don't overcomplicate the procedure.

I guess it all really boils down to how much automotive wiring experience you have. Understanding relays and pins, and how to dissassemble the connectors. There is no mystery behind all of these swaps. No hidden information, it's all out there, all you have to do is compile it and take your time... My wiring looks stock. And it was intentional that it look that way.

make sure all the parts on your donor wrx engine are working before you swap.....

I don't know how other people did their swap.. I had the car down for a month and half.. It looks pretty good after its done.. but the whole process was a bi*** mechanical wise its very easy. nothing hard about it.. but all the misc this will gets you.. seriously.. have to be ready with alot of stuff. such as power steering hoses radiator and fan there are certain parts that won't work from RS engine to WRX engine.. when you do you swap.. just get the complete engine.. meaning the whole complete engine with every engine part.. so you won't have to wonder around to find these parts..
