They're on pretty tight from the factory, and you can easily strip the screws if you're not careful. The other screws with a star end are tamper-resistant screws that are designed so you don't get into the mechanical parts of the IAC. This happened to me on my MY02 WRX motor. deadeye 03-05-2005, 10:02 PM To thoroghly clean the IAC do you have to remove these tamper resistant screws? I am trying to clean the IAC before I pay alot to replace it. I used an impact wrench that you hit it on the top with a hammer to untorque the "+" screws. DrD 03-06-2005, 12:19 AM those screws aren't torx (torx has 6 points) - they look like pentadrive. Unabomber 03-06-2005, 04:53 AM They look like Torx, but are not. I just found out a week or two ago they are tamper resistant. Apparently they are Torx in shape, but have a slight taper to them and require a special tool to properly remove. I guess it's a Torx with a rounded head similar to the ball hex. It may be pentadrive as mentioned above, but I am not familar with it. When I cleaned mine I remove the + screws and cleaned with Q-tips and alcohol. I did try a Torx of the proper size, but it didn't work. Vibeeleven 03-06-2005, 06:02 PM I have the same problem with my iac. I can hear/feel the motor trying to move the rod, but it stays in the same position wheather it's getting signal and when it's off, wich leads me to believe it's stuck. Is thier a way to unstick it? also what position should the rod be in when it's on and off? Thanks guys LDragon 06-01-2005, 11:26 AM "Is thier a way to unstick it? also what position should the rod be in when it's on and off?" does anyone have an answer for vibeleven above? this IAC valve is driving me crazy. i can;t drive my car with it idling at 2000 rpms. |
