View Full Version : Problem with Accessport
IMPEZER22 01-04-2005, 08:24 PM I just got an AP for christmas and put it on my car. At first I wasn't sure if it was working b/c i was only getting 10psi. Before I had the AP I had a MBC on and threw out the hoses that ran in between the compressor and the wastegate. After some reseach I found out that there was an Orfice in the hose. So I ordered it from subaruparts.com and just got it today. I put it in a hose and back on the car. Now Its back to stock running 14psi. In the mean time i reverted the car to stock. Now Im running new stage2 93oct as my basemap. From what i was told it get rid of the cel if your catless. Im catless besides my 3rd cat. So now my cel comes on and comes up with a PO136. Its not listed in the manual. But i did a search and found out that its the rear o2 sensor. And another thing is im not getting 17psi just stock boost.
Can someone please help???
Thanks Chris
Chigliakus 01-04-2005, 08:46 PM I'm running the same base map as you with no CEL. Do you still have the 02 sensor in your dp? My thought would be that maybe it can fix a cat efficiency CEL but not a missing cat code, dunno...
On the topic of boost I've read that some have to wait as much as a week to get target boost. I started off hitting 16.5 psi and have continued to do so. Some people have to adjust the wastegate to get the desired boost but I'd give it some time before resorting to more drastic measures. Maybe try resetting the ECU too if you haven't done so yet. Also you could try loading the stg2 93 octane real-time map, I've read that helps some folks.
IMPEZER22 01-04-2005, 08:57 PM ok i'll give it a try. Thanks Chris
synersia 01-05-2005, 10:15 AM Nice gift, Chris ...
Re. the P0136, I used to get that code before AP (with my single-cat TBE) but not since the AP - I believe that this code can appear if the CEL fix for the O2 sensor is gone awry ... do you have a CEL fix - if so, check for loose connections or exhaust leak etc. [If no wonky CEL fix, then do a check to see if there's something really wrong ... I don't think the P0136 is the "first natural" code one would get for a catless DP with stock O2 sensor setup]. As for the AP, I also believe that Cobb has specifically tuned that code out within the AP. You mentioned that you're running stage 2 93 Oct as basemap ... what are you running as realtime map ? Per Chigliakus' mention, definitely try loading and running the stage 2 93 Oct realtime map too and see if code goes away (base and realtime maps contain different info IIRC). Clearing the code may impact boost ... but IIRC, the P0136 is not a performance / boost limiting code.
As for the boost level, I think a lot of "low boost" cases depend on the exhaust setup ... is your DP bellmouthed or otherwise, 3" vs. 2.5" diam, how restrictive is the cat left behind and what kind of muffler. My setup is 3" all the way with 1 HF-Cat after the DP and so far I can hit ~1.15 bar (2nd gear and up) quite consistently. Also, is yout boost reading logged off the AP ... or from any specific brand of boost gauge ? This latter can also make a difference the the numbers you get. I would suggest NOT playing around with wastegate rod or any connector at this point yet (just in case you come across these ideas).
Also, maybe try contacting Cobb and see what their advice is (if not done already) ... they've been very good (and timely) in helping me out in the past.
Just my tuppence's worth from experience with my setup.

WolfInSheepsCLothing 01-08-2005, 03:28 AM my car threw the same P0139 3 different times. each time i reset the ecu, then it went back on the next day, or even an hour later. but with the ecu on, i reflashed my ecu with a different stage II map, and it fixed the problem. i noticed the LCD on the accessport read "error" for a fraction of a second before it started reflashing the ecu, i think that was when the AP fixed it, but at the end of the reflash, it said it completed it sucessfully, no problems yet, its been about 3 weeks...
i'm thinkin of putting on the stage II hwy map for more boost lolz
IMPEZER22 01-09-2005, 03:10 PM No i don't have the cel fix which I wanted to get anyway. And where can I get it? Im running the stage 2 realtime map and the light is still on but i never reset the ecu. For the dp it isn't a bell mouth:( I have a autometer boost gauge but i ran the realtime boost on the AP and it was like 1psi difference. But in vacuum the gauge reads 21 and the AP reads 9.2ish. Whats up whit that? Playing with the wastegate is the last thing on my list.
Thanks for the help and advice
Chris
spongejosh 01-09-2005, 03:35 PM what kind of dp do you have? if its stock or an hks you will have the boost problems i believe. the AP is programmed for a high flowing exhaust. also, are you loading the newest map from cobb? the AP should be killing that CEL so it can't light up. i think you need to check the map. also, maybe a dumb question but do you have all the mods to support the AP stage 2?
Jduke 01-10-2005, 11:29 AM nice to see this post, I am getting the same P0136 code with AP stage 2 93oct... I didnt have this poblem before but only since I flashed the new revision #. It has shown up twice, once on a longish trip on the Interstate when i was crusing in 5th at about 75 for like two hours... stayed on the rest of the day, then I stopped and started the car a few times and it went away for about two-three weeks, then It came back last night driving up a large hill in the snow luggin' it in fourth.... It seems high exaust temp situations caused the cel for me...

synersia 01-10-2005, 11:43 AM Ummm … Per others' suggestions, definitely check the version of the stage 2 maps that you are running (I'm not sure of any easy way to do this, but if you had installed your maps before September 2004, more likely they would NOT be v1.20) – If they are not the latest v1.20, then maybe load v1.20 base and realtime maps from Cobb’s site and try same:
http://www.cobbtuning.com/wrx/accessport/
The v1.20 maps, according to Cobb, definitely has P0136 tuned out (but not prior versions):
http://www.cobbtuning.com/wrx/accessport/docs02/stage2%2093%20oct.txt
Eliminating the CEL code aside, the code that is normally first triggered by a catless DP is a P0420 and not a P0136 (IIRC). The P0136 is more often encountered if a MIL/CEL-fix is installed improperly or has gone bad. If you are seeing P0136 right off the hop without any MIL/CEL fix attempts, maybe the fault is genuine and should be first investigated  . I think the P0136 code is a rear cat circuit malfunction code (i.e. no signal at all, rather than a low efficiency signal as in the P0420’s case) which can mean a bad/broken O2 sensor, bad/broken sensor wiring, or a more fundamental problem at the ECU level. Maybe some physical damage to the sensor/wiring from the DP install (?) and assuming that the new DP has a rear O2 sensor bung and the sensor was put back in place properly after the swap (?) - better to be safe and check it out than be sorry later ;)
Also beware that there are many AP users who do not like the latest AP v1.20 maps and have reverted back to older version(s) – and make sure you have backed-up your current maps (base and realtime) first so that same can be restored if need be.
As for getting a CEL/MIL fix, I don’t think it would be necessary if you plan to continue running AP Stage 2 as the P0420 has also been tuned out – see Cobb’s list per above.
As for boost level and DP design, I suspect that if your DP is not of "bellmouth" or "divorced pipe" design (but is of the blank-plate design), then that would likely be (part) culprit re. max boost levels (not knowing the rest of your system). Maybe v1.20 would improve the situation, and maybe not. What peak boost levels have you been able to attain ?

ptaaty 01-10-2005, 12:39 PM you have an old map, plain and simple.
download the new base map off of cobb's site and reflash the base map.
I don't even have a rear 02 sensor at all and I get no CEL

John - What version of base and realtime maps are you running ? It sounds like the exact same symptoms I had before AP (used to have ECUTek flash with no codes tuned out and kept getting P0136). I am now running v1.19 base with v1.20 realtime (both stage 2 but 91 Octane) and haven't seen the code come back to date (knock on wood).

Chris it's me CALEB! I just happen to be the accessport wizard of williamsport. What your problem is, well, I don't know, nevermind. Sorry, but thanks for fixing my boost the other day :)

I Had no problems with the 1.18 map stage 2 I ran for a while then figured I'd try the new map 1.20 becasue of the responce it got... and I agree... it is smoother and I didn't have problems with it untill that first long trip... it is odd that CObb claims they took care of that code with the 1.20 map... because I have doubled checked I am running the newer revision 1.20 and the code comes up as P0136....??? so not sure. Im not loosing any sleep over it though.

Sure, the P0136 is not a performance-limiting code in my experience and can be wiped pretty easily. Good to know though and something to look out for when I go on my next long trip ... and I thought I'd seen the last of my friend P0136 :disco:
BENSREX 01-14-2005, 03:43 PM What should I be seeing as far as boost for a Stage 1? Highest I've seen is 14.5psi. Sound about right? Thought it might be a little higher...

I have the latest 1.20 stage II map and still get PO136
I loaded it as a base map and real time map. I have the mil fix and before loading the latest map never got a CEL. Figures...
