I swapped my 2001 2.5L sohc that has 2.2L heads to a 2.2L 95 impreza motor due to a spun timing pulley. Its onl temp while i build up the 2.5L. I have a few questions though.... i bought the car with the 2.5
l with 2.2L heads what is the advantage of this? Wouldn't it seriously lower the flow rate? It must have some point because i have read about a few poeple doing it with built motors on this site. Anyway, i have pulled this 2.2 out twic now with no luck the throwout bering keeps comming off, at first i thought it was a bad throwout being so i pulled the motor and replaced it, i put the clips on correctly and when i was all said and done the motor still made the noise. I pulled the motor agian only to find the clips off! I reclipped it and put the motr back in and agian same thing? Is there a trick to keeping the clips on? Also i keep getting a stuttering and check engine light that reads a misfire in cyl 3. Sometimes it goes away but always comes back. There's also heavy amounts of black fluid shooting out my exhaust. Any sugesstions or helpful tips?

Next, I compression tested the 2.5L motr and found a 30% loss in the heas so i will be replacing them. I want to increase the power a little while i'm at it. I have a good set of stock 2.2l heads at the house that were just cleaned and tested witn no leaks. Can i put 2.5L agressive street cams from cobb in there or should i just spend the money and get the $2000 stage I 2.5L heads. I realy don't want to spend taht much money as it is.

P.s.--- The car is running off a 1.8L ecu. (possible problems there?) This car is a real hybrid!!

2.5s on 1.8 ECUs always (or almost always) run rich.

I believe the fix is spreading out the timing map.
