View Full Version : Question about ECMs (Utec and the likes)

I'm about to purchase a used UTEC from a friend and before I do...

I was wondering if there is any evidence that other aftermarket ECMs are producing far better results than the UTEC.. Such as tunability and control over the engine. Or better yet, creating smoother results and better power bands over the UTEC.

I just want to make sure i'm making a wise choice and not going with a ECM that's been proven to work better than a UTEC.

Thanks,

Jay

far better results? i don't think so.

big reasons to get a utec:
a) tune it yourself
b) pass obd2
c) switch maps
d) established user base

Yeah after reading the ECU comparison, looks like the UTEC is a great choice.

If you're not worried about emissions(which you shouldn't be since there are no emissions testings in fl), you might wanna look into a standalone engine management system. Something like the element hydra might be more what you're lookin for. Not that the utec isn't nice, but there are probably many advantages to the hydra(over the utec), and the only real disadvantage is not being able to pass emissions. Course, this is all just speculation since I have a utec and not a hydra.......

Is the Utec emissions detectable? I live in MD and they are pretty strict on emissions and changing the ecu.
