Is it Florida?

View Full Version : O.K. So which state has the fewest Subarus? rktwgn 07-08-2001, 12:18 PM Is it Florida? Youngun 07-08-2001, 12:55 PM alabama lark6 07-08-2001, 01:22 PM Probably one of the Gulf South states (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana). I would have added South Carolina to that list but last week I saw several Foresters and Outbacks in Charleston as well as a couple Legacies and base Imprezas around Myrtle Beach. There have always been a lot of Subies in the mountains of Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia so I imagine the same holds true for SC. Ed Porter 07-08-2001, 01:31 PM There are quite a few Subarus in the extreme upstate of SC, but they're quite a rarity in the rest of the state. Almost all are Legacies or Outbacks. I'd estimate less than 10 RSes in the whole upper half of the state, and only 2 or three of those are on the board. My vote for the least number of Subarus would be Arkansas or Mississippi. There are LOTS in Florida. Youngun 07-08-2001, 01:40 PM yeah arkansas and missisipi is prolly right. I need to move down there, there are like 15 L's in my town alone ;-) rkkwan 07-08-2001, 02:09 PM Since I have too much time on my hand on a gloomy Sunday, I did a survey of No. of dealerships and population per some states. Notice, this is not of Subaru sales or No. of Subies on the road, just No. of dealership. But that will probably tell you something. Fewest dealerships: One - LA, ND Two - AR, SD Three - DE, MS, NE, NM, OK Four - AL, AK, NV, RI, WY Five - HI, KS, ME, SC Now, when I compare population (from 2001 National Geographic Atlas, which is based on earlier data), these states have the fewest Subaru dealership per capita. 1. LA - 1 dealer for 4.4 mil (1/4.4M) 2. AR - 2 dealers for 2.6 mil (1/1.3M) 3. OK - 3 dealers for 3.4 mil (1/1.1M) 4. AL - 4 dealers for 4.4 mil (1/1.1M) 5. TX - 20 dealers for 20mil (1/1M) Again, this is just a survey. Note that LA is not a very big state, and people living near Lake Charles in the SW corner can go to Beaumont, TX, and people living in Shreveport/Bossier City in the NW corner can go to Tyler, TX. But still, only 1 dealer??? As far as pure numbers, I think you'll find the fewest in ND. The state has only 650,000 people, and I think most drive domestic trucks there. It's just not practical to buy a car where the closest dealer may be 300 miles of snow from you. -Ray remarcable 07-08-2001, 05:29 PM I have never seen an Impreza 2.5RS or a WRX in the state of south carolina. I saw my first WRX (ever!) in Augusta, GA last week. There are only two other outbacks and 2 or 3 foresters in my city. Alot of the outbacks you will see at the beach are tourists from north carolina. lark6 07-08-2001, 07:14 PM remarcable - I have seen 1 RS outside Myrtle Beach. All the vehicles I saw last week had SC tags. However, the rental OB that I had had NC tags (picked up @ MB airport; key fob said "Wilm(ington?)" on it). Ed (who has dragged his PA-tagged Forester, albeit w/SC flag front tag, into SC on occasion) Tim K. 07-08-2001, 08:39 PM I actually ran into another RS and a brand WRX at the last autocross in Columbia, SC. Josh, the RS driver, kindly lent me his car to drive. Pat, the WRX Pilot, is loaning me his car for the next autox at White Knolls High School. So there might not be many of us, but the few that are here are nice folks. |
