I am sure that this has been covered many times but please help me. I went to TurboXS and had them tune my care and I came out with 324whp/320wtq. I cannot for the life of me rember what kind of dyno they use. Does that type read to the high side? What would I see on other dynos? Seems like so may cars that are running slow boy and full throttle turbos are barely putting out more power than I am putting out on VF39.

Thanks

You mean the Lying in XS Dyno????
I have heard there dyno reads about 20-30 over the typical dynojet dynos...
But screw it you have over 300whp !!!!

TXS's dyno reads a little high, but all dynapacks read higher.
Figure on 300whp on a dynapack being around 275 on a low reading dyno

It's kind of interesting, I dyno'd my car at Godspeeds who has a dynapack and a car that was tuned at TXS in Maryland made a bit more HP on TXS' dynapack than Godspeed's. My car made almost the exact same amount of HP on a Mustang dyno as a Dynapack (GRD in Chicago).

dynojets read pretty high too don't they?

dwx: Godspeed's dyno is the lowest reading Dynapack that I know of.

Dynojets generally read the highest of all though.

i can say.. comparing turboxs dyno vs a local dynoject.. my Hp was like 2 hp higher on the dynojet... could be jst a differnce of different days

I know Pruven Performance's dyno (Dynojet) reads approx. 13% more than KTR Performance's dyno (Dyno Dynamics)... you can do the math.

what i can't understand sometimes is that why there are some that actually care what a dyno reads. from what i come to understand is that due to the variety of dynos from different companies, it's main purpose is for tuning and measurement. where the bragging should come from is at the track where your trap speed is a very good indicator of horsepower. so in any case, power should be seen at the track than just taken off a dyno. just something i've wondered for sometime now. am i wrong in thinking this?

I concur. Dynos are indeed tuning and programming "tools" and there are several different types of "tools" for several different types of data gathering. Some people us these dyno/tools to share new set-ups and combinations. But, it seems that in the e-world the overall message typically gets distorted and too many times the information is mis-interpreted.
I always wondered how many of the Subaru public really take their cars to a real track and/or auto-cross.

i guess living on an island makes me realize how useful a dyno is in terms of it being a tuning tool. here, we have to strictly road tune. (well, for our all-wheel drive subaru's) there are only FWD and RWD dynos here for tuning. so, if any of you tuners are coming to hawaii and want to make a few bucks road tuning some of our UTEC's and standalones, just post up and let us know. :D yeah, i recognize that many people on these boards just look at dyno numbers and say that their did this and that, then you have a big useless discussion about who's dyno reads better or worse than the other. quite pointless if you ask me.

dyno's really do not mean that much, not saying they mean nothing, but the slip is what really shows what your car can do.to help answer I-speed's question about if any of the subaru public go to the track,i see many wrx's at the track(midwest) when i go. they all seem to ride the hell out of their clutches and launch slower than the 98 maxima gle it's up against lol.

 reminds me of the wrx vs evo shootout in nj. i remember seeing modded WRXs and even an sti or two run 14s. "but i dynoed at 304whp!" dynos are instant gradification for people, 1/4 runs risk too much driver error.

the problem with timeslips though is not everyone knows how to drag race. the time slip isn't worth anything with a 2.4 sec. 60' time....right?

so is it safe to dyno my car on turboxs's dynapack dyno? i have a jdm 6speed dccd with no dccd controller. Defaults then to 65% rear and 35% front. I dont want to overheat center diff or break any diffs.

true but you'd also have a trap speed which would tell you alot. unless the driver is aweful, then it wouldn't matter anyway.

guys I didn't want to start this debate all over again. I was just interested in the differences between the dyno that I used and what other dynos are reading. I am interested in doing a turbo upgrade and just want to make sure that I am comparing apples to apples.

Thanks

what you should do then, is take the set-up you have now and take a couple of runs at the track. then, do the turbo upgrade, get it tuned and take a few more runs. eventually you'll have some type of average. then, maybe put it on a dyno again and you can judge the results yourself. :D hope this somewhat answers your question. ;) in terms of dyno differences, due to the amount of different dynos and stuff, i'd say just stay with the same dyno when making your conclusions. i think as long as you do that, then you'll be comparing apples to apples.

As long as you finish the run hard, you should end up with ABOUT the same trap speed almost everytime. It will change as the weather changes that night... Try and You shall see ;)

Well, I wasn't talking about myself. Back in my drag days I had my launch down to good 1.7 60's...I just meant in general. I've since focused on roadracing. (I enjoy it a little more than drag) Maybe I will though once I'm retuned.

You won't have any problems.
