For the rear, WRX sedan axles will work (they worked for me at least) I would assume the same for wagon axles

As for the front, you'll either need some WRX wagon axles or RS axles.

L axles won't work. this is coming from a guy who's tried.... well I tried using non LSD rear axles from a 94 L but from what I'm able to collect 99-01 RS rear axles will work even though 99RS had no LSD? currently I'm using some newier legacy axles on my R160. theres something to look for on the axle to know if they will work or not I completey forgot what it was at the moment

I am running all 97 L axles with STi tranny and STi 4.44 rear LSD -R160. It was published on here that it wouldn't work, but yet it does. YMMV.

whoa horsie!!!!

#1 not all lsds are outties (or innies)
#2 you already have a r160
#3 front axes are the same length/spline count (the new stis are stronger) only exception is 93-94 FWD cars
#4 99 rs axes are innies 00-01 are outties (or vise versa)
#5 one of the rear axels is longer than the other

if you match up th whole innie/outtie deal the only place things get grazy is when you switch to the r180 diff

i know i already have a r160 but i wanted to the r160 from the wrx so i get the lsd and the same final drive

my only question is whether the front and rear wrx axels are the correct length for the L

so all post 94 axels are the same length?? any confirmation on this??

front axles no problem with any AWD subaru rear is what you should be worried about. I think pre 97 axles won't work in rear but thats all speculation I have nothing to back that up besides taht my 94 rears didn't work

post 90 AWD front axels
any year real axels as long as the inne-outtie matches up
the year has nothing to do the rear being innei or outtie some models have inne some outtie

we need to make a sticky about what axles will work with what...

are you talking about the whole shalf? such as the accual trans is outie and the axles are innie ??
if thats the case its not true because both 94 L diff and 94 WRX diff's were innie and both axles I had were outies and my 94L just would'nt fit in the R160 LSD diff thus not working.

did you take the c-clamps off?

C clamps were off we talked to a few other subaru guys and we all came to the conclustion that it wouldn't work. I gotta talk to my bro about what was different between the 2 axles compared side by side

For what it's worth, I used front RS axels on a 97 Brighton. Actually, I used axles.

Fronts will work. Like everyone else said, Innies or Outties.
